Did I buy OEM Black Spyder Wheels?
Did I buy OEM Black Spyder Wheels?
I recently bought a Boxster Spyder and the one option it did not have that I wanted was Spyder wheels in black. After looking for a while, I found a set on Rennlist, including tires and TPMS, advertised as race car take-offs from either a Cayman R or Boxster Black Edition (a few sets were available) . I purchased them and received them yesterday. They look nice but I noticed that the insides are painted gloss black, there is some overspray on the back of the spokes, and the silver ring, which I thought was supposed to be polished aluminum, is a silver-painted pinstripe. As I have never seen a set of the black Spyder wheels in person, I don't really have much to compare to except pictures. I thought that the insides were supposed to be silver but I don't know if they may have been black for the Black Edition? I also don't know for certain whether the outer ring is supposed to be polished aluminum or if it is supposed to be painted silver. Anyway, as I said, they do look pretty good, but I'd like to know if I bought an OEM black Spyder wheel or an OEM silver Spyder wheel that someone painted. I considered having my silver Spyder wheels painted, which would have cost a lot less (maybe $600 or so vs $4,000 paid for these wheels) but I wanted the OEM wheel. Can anyone help me figure out what I bought?
Thanks,
Josh

As far as I know the Boxster Spyder did not come in a Black Edition. All of the Spyder's I have ever seen in person or in pictures came with the 19" Spyder wheels like the one's on mine. I am guessing someone painted the one's you bought.
I was visiting a winery in the North Georgia Mountains today and the owner has a collection of Porsche cars including a 2012 Boxster Spyder in white with black leather interior. I immediately noticed that the 19" Boxster Spyder wheels were black. When I asked him about the wheels he told me he ordered them from the factory in black and paid an additional $1,800. I actually saw a copy of his build sheet showing the additional charge so I guess it is possible to have factory painted black Spyder wheels. To answer your other question, yes the insides of the wheels are also black.
