2014 Cayman test drive- Driving an S PDK today

Unless you're buying the car for pure wheel-to-wheel racing or pure automotive jewelry, it's about what you will enjoy more. From the perspective of enjoyment, pick what you want and drive the thing - nobody can honestly tell you that you made a bad decision.

A few things.
1. I agree with others. Get the transmission you will want to use more and find enjoyable. There is no question PDK will be a bit faster and easier and good for stop and go traffic. In my case it will be my fun car and I ordered 6MT. I didn't get sport chrono but am thinking I will wish I did...sigh.
2. The engine in the S is the same as the new base 911. From what I have read on planet 9 the only diff is that it is detuned by Porsche when in the cayman. There is a kit to change this at TPC. Effectively you get a larger throttle body, intake and an ECU tune to bring the car up to the 350hp

3. I don't know that you can compare a Cayman to a Ferrari that costs 100k more. And if you are looking for a Porsche to really give you power and torque sadly the 911 (or perhaps 918) is the way to go. There are many of us tho that test drove rear engine 911s and preferred the feeling of mid engine handling over raw power...but it's a compromise. Of course the 911 doesn't handle bad at all I am just saying personal preference and saving on price.
4. There was some discussion also on planet 9 about the long gearing and how annoying that is. I am hoping I don't hate it that much when my S arrives. Of course you can also always drop 2 gears in MT and heel toe too...
5. Your last message was amazing without white space paragraph breaks.
