No Speed Dependent Volume on Boxster/Bose
My new Boxster has the Bose radio option. The owners manual shows that SDV is on the same screen with the volume adjustments "SOUND->OPTION".
The SDV is not there, although the worthless (far as a I can tell) AudioPilot is there.
I cant remember when I bought a car that didnt have a speed dependent volume control to reduce the volume at a stoplight. Without this control, I will have to turn the damn volume down and back up manually FOR THE WHOLE TIME I OWN THIS CAR!
So far no help from anyone anywhere.
Is this option there? Am I just missing the location?
It sure takes the shine off a wonderful car to not have such a basic radio function available. I'll bet I couldnt have bought any other car over $25K that doesnt have it...

That's odd. I have a 987.1 with Bose optino and the speaker volume is adjusted based on either speed or ambient sound (can't remember which one). I can hear the audio gets louder as I accelerate (with loud exhaust). Good luck finding that setting - pretty sure it's there.
Check the "good to know" Porsche app. Go to the "Audio System CDR" item then "Basic Functions" then "Advanced sound settings". As you can read the speed volume setting is only for cars without Bose or Burmester. If you have Bose the AudioPilot function effectively does that function along with sound adjustment from ambient noise.
Here is a copy-paste of most of that...

Advanced sound settings
Press the SOUND button.
Press the OPTION button or tap "OPTION" on the touchscreen.
Speed-dependent volume*
The SDVC (Speed Dependent Volume Control) is a feature that controls the volume automatically according to the speed of the vehicle. At higher speeds, the volume is increased. This compensates for the increase in driving noise that occurs as the speed increases.
Press the SOUND button.
Press the OPTION button or tap "OPTION" on the touchscreen.
Select "SDVC level".
Adjust the desired setting using the and symbols or by turning the right ****.

Bose® Sound System settings
AudioPilot® "BOSE Sound System"
Wind, vehicle noise and rain can all negatively affect the enjoyment of music in a vehicle. AudioPilot® uses a microphone to detect all the noises that occur inside the vehicle. A digital filter is then used to distinguish between music, which is intended to be heard, and unwanted background noise. Finally, the system continuously adjusts the tone and volume of the music playback in order to compensate for the effects of any background noise. This means that manual readjustment of the tone and volume settings is not necessary.
Press the SOUND button.
Press the OPTION button or tap "OPTION" on the touchscreen.
Select "AudioPilot".
AudioPilot is switched ON or OFF .
Linear
When the "Linear" feature is activated, the CDR 31 switches from an accentuated-bass sound mode ("Linear OFF") to a more audiophilic sound ("Linear ON").
Press the SOUND button.
Press the OPTION button or tap "OPTION" on the touchscreen.
Select "Linear".
The "Linear" feature is now switched ON or OFF .
Burmester® sound settings
Press the SOUND button.
Press the OPTION button or tap "OPTION" on the touchscreen.
Select "Burmester".
You can choose from the following options:
"Smooth"
"Sound conditioner"
"Surround"

I would still like an SDV control
Thanks guys. I knew that SDV was not on the Bose system, but AudioPilot is.
AudioPilot boosts certain frequencies according to the ambient sound.
But in a car that does not have a loud exhaust, AudioPilot doesnt do much. In normal driving, stopping at a light leaves the volume loud, since SDV is not available with the Bose system.
In the world I live in, SDV would be a desirable function, as would, for example, a preset turn on volume (like in my S4) to keep me from jumping out of the seat if it was loud when I turned it off.
And while I am *****ing, it would be nice if the 12v outlets were switched with the key, so I wouldn't have to turn the radar detector off and on every time I get in or out of the car. It can be expensive to forget to turn it on.
I realize that some people want - and need - them hot all the time. I would like to have a choice. Four days with a radar detector on = dead battery.
Oh. Thanks mcomet for taking the time to reply in depth. I have a daughter who is unmarried.....

I am with you on both counts... I think I have AudioPilot turned off just because I don't want it mucking with the sound quality... Bose does enough of that already. I don't know why a simpler SDV isn't a part of it. And same with the outlets... tho I don't currently leave anything plugged in usually anyhow.
As for the last, while I am sure life would be more interesting with an additional wife, I'm afraid the current one might have something to say about that...
LOL.
