2009 Boxster S 987-2 Battery Issue - First run of the season.

Could not wait any longer.... Cold dry -7 degrees Celsius Sunday.

Took the air out of my tires (down to 32lbs), disconnected my CTEK battery Maintainer and fired her up.

Started fine, after a warm up I went out to burn half a tank of gas. While driving my PCM reboots, Then 10 minutes later it does it again. The pcar is driving great, and handling great.

So I visit a friend at the other side of town. 4 Hours later I go out to the car and start her up. PCM reboots as I pull away, and again around the second light. I drive for 30 minutes and when I am close to home, I decide I might as well rinse off all the dust from my garage. I head into a hand car wash and rinse the car off.

Go to start the pcar and it is dead.... solenoids clicking, BUT all lights are on full and then the PCM reboots and I have full sound. Did not seem like a dead battery.

Call 1-800-Porsche. Service arrives and says lets try a boost. The boost works. Technician advises that Porsche advises once a battery needs a boost it should be replaced. I figure 5 years is about a year early, specially when I make sure to always use the CTEK. Changing the battery is easier than the PCM or an alternator... lol.

Next day I pick up an Exide AGM 94R Battery (I know Exide is in financial troubles), the the new AGM technology seems perfect for my very cold climate. Battery fits like OEM, even down to the battery vent. Out and in, in under 10 minutes.

Car starts fine, PCM seems fine. Ran it for 10 minutes and then shut her down. Plugged the CTEK back in and set the CTEK to the "snowflake" setting (someone pointed out this was a special AGM setting..)

I will wait 2 more days before I take the car out again, I think I will not be happy if the PCM reboots.

Thanks to this board and all the advice and shared knowledge.

You may have a bad ground. There is a thread on p-9 I think. For light loads, it is fine, when you pull a heavy load, the resistance is too high for the starter to kick in.

Quick Followup. With the changing of the battery, everything thing appears to be fine. I have put 250 miles on my car with no issues and the PCM has not reset even once.
