987 Boxster s or Cayman s

Hey guys,

Would like your opinion on the following, having sold my 996 in favour for an m3, I'm looking at getting into another porsche,

Is it worth spending the extra $10k difference for the Cayman s than the Boxster s? How does the 3.2 compare to 3.4?

I have previously owned 2 986 one 2.5 & one 3.2, is there much difference from the 986 3.2 vs 987 3.2? Also the 996 3.4 vs 987 3.4?

Is the 3.4 the one to go for? Obviously more expensive

Other option is to go for a z4m coupe?

Thoughts ??

It all depends on if a sunroof is important to you.

For me, I couldn't even consider the Cayman, that's why I went with the BS.

IMO u either like a lot of sun and wind or you don't. I used to like my 3.2 Boxster S top down, but can't stand it now. So it's a 2014 3.4 Cayman S I'm driving now and its a great machine. Grins every time I drive it. Yes the 3.4s are that much better and more grins!
IMO the Z4 isn't much of a driver's machine. It's 400lbs heavier than the Boxsters, archaic front engine design, and nothing like the mid engine 3.4 Boxster handling. The only BMW I would ever want would be one of the M powered sedans, if I ever wanted a sedan.
And owning a BMW won't get you into PCA, the biggest and best car club in the world.
You either want a roadster or you don't.
You either want an average good looking roadster, or the best handling and all around roadster on the planet under $100k.
These are the thoughts that come to mind, reading your questions.

It's not that simple,

i prefer the Cayman but is it worth the $10k premium over the Boxster?

id do prefer the Cayman as I've already had 2 boxsters,

but for the $10k saving the Boxster seems like a better buy, as the IMS has already been done & can use the saving on mods/maintenance

I would rather the 3.4 over the 3.2 though

im not much of a convertible guy, I barely used it in my previous cars unless at night.

See Links between the 2 I'm choosing

Boxster s

2005 Porsche Boxster 987 S

Cayman s

2006 Porsche Cayman 987 S MY07

Correction - its Meteor Gray and is a 2010 with $86k original sticker. The guy seems to have all the paper work, receipts and CarFax.

It's not that big a premium for a used 3.4 Cayman S. I'm looking for a 3.4L BS for a buddy and the prices aren't as low as I would have thought, having just searched extensively and bought my 2014 Cayman S 3.4L. Are you wanting a 6 spd or PDK? If you could tolerate one with just over 50k miles, there was a thread on a Blk/Blk 2009 CS in CT with PDK and very heavily optioned, about $86-87k MSRP, asking $37k on P9 in the last day. Looked good enough to inquire further if it appeals.
To my knowledge there are no issues with the 3.4s. I would not want another Blk Porsche, but even if a buyer doesn't like the Blk exterior, he can have it professionally wrapped in any color imaginable, and preserved for the life of the wrap, nowadays.

IMS is not an issue on Boxster '07 and newer and Cayman has never had an issue with it. There are other issue with the 987.1 if you intend on tracking them and don't address oil starvation prevention. The '09s and up have different engines with no IMS, DFI and better oiling system.

Not sure how the market is there on the versus models and engine size but there is a big difference in the performance between the standard and the S. Roof or no roof is more of how you are going to use the car and if you like open feel. I'm not a big fan of wind noise so you can guess which way I went.
