Hi guys,
So I recently went to a porsche driving experience event and I tasted something very good (Cayman GTS 2015). Though that maybe somewhat out of my budget, I think if I try hard enough I can squeeze in a slightly used '14 cayman S. Just to give you an idea, I have driven e92 m3s and currently drive a 370Z in competitive Bstreet in Scca solo. I guess I am looking for a car I can pick up my road racing (where I left off) and still maintain my position well in Autox (looks like SS). Looks like Cayman S will do both. I do have a few questions:
1. I found a 2014 cayman s with 2,000 miles. It's got 20" carrera s wheels, slightly darkened taillights (not sure what option was this), 6spd, sports chrono, bi xenon lights etc. car looks fantastic. They are asking $62,200. 1 owner. clean title. is this a good price? what's a good counter offer?
2. Any issues or things to look for buying these 2014 model S?
3. what are 1,2, and 3. I know the sport, sports chrono and suspension buttons.
That seems like a good deal. Cheapest '14 S on Autotrader right now is just under 60k with 15k miles. You may be able to haggle them down to 60k but I would move quick on that.
Button 1 is traction control on off switch. Standard on all cars.
Button 2 is manual up/down override for spoiler/wing. Also standard. Let's you put it up or down manually.
Button 3 is the auto start/stop engine feature which turns the engine off when not in a sport mode and you are stopped or cruising to save gas mileage. Also standard on all cars. Most of us leave that disabled (lit) all the time unless commuting or something. I find it annoying. Heh
I would say price is a good deal if the car is clean and curious what other options. There doesn't seem to be a sport exhaust on they car but you can always do aftermarket.
Have you thought about buying new? I was in the same boat, and unfortunately for us, the Cayman won an award for great resale value, lol, so used prices are still pretty high. I decided to poke around at some dealerships, and am now getting prices for brand new, well-equipped 2016 CS's at about 8% off MSRP. The final pricing will be about $67k, while the used ones I was looking at without all the options I wanted were only about $5-6k cheaper. Just my $0.02.
