Good morning everyone. I'm Mike and I just signed up to get more insight on Porsche's (mainly Boxsters) from people that own them. I'm in the process of selling my 2011 GT500 and looking to get into a Porsche but don't know what all I should be on the look out for when shopping for one. I do know I will miss the horsepower I currently have since a 2013 Boxster is under 300hp and the S variant is under 350hp. I do feel that with the Boxster's light weight and wonderful steering/suspension, I won't feel too bad for putting my Shelby up for sale.
I also want to know about maintenance on these. Since they're mid engine I'm sure I will spend more on oil changes and other forms of maintenance than I do my my Shelby.
Any comments and/or ideas from you all would be worthwhile since I'm ready to pull the trigger on one any day now.

Welcome Mike. Take your time and really read through threads on the Porsche sites to identify the car you want. I have had tons of American muscle cars and am on my 11th Porsche. Two different worlds. Frankly, I have not missed the muscle cars although the new Mustang has caught my eye. I think the Boxster is the perfect car. Mid engine and well balanced. I would go right to the S model as you get more bang for the buck. As typical, the best advice seems to be to buy the newest example you can afford so long as it passes a PPI by a Porsche dealership (other than the selling dealership). About a year ago I located and negotiated a purchase for my brother-in-law, first time Porsche buyer, on a 2008 S with 50K miles on it from the original owner for $22K. It was nicely optioned and very clean but did need tires and a light service. First Boxster I have really driven and it really impressed me as a well balanced car all around. Good luck, be patient and do your home work.
Thanks for the info. I am looking to get myself a Boxster S since the gas mileage is way better than my car. I can do much of my own repairs so getting overwhelmed with dealer fees for maintenance and services should be non-existent. I am concerned about how much I'm going to come out of pocket for oil changes and what not since there are some things I may rely on the dealerships to perform. Anything I should be on the lookout for when shopping for a 2013 and up Boxster and Boxster S?
