How far you can negotiate Cerified Pre owned?

Any ideas how far I can negotiate price on the Certified Pre owned Boxsters? Is like 5 % or 10%? There are few boxsters with 5000 to 10000 miles 2015 models that are of interest to me.They have 6 years of Porsche Certified Warranty good through Year 2021

Also how good is the Porsche Certified Warranty? Does it cover the entire car?

Thanks

Hard to say how much you can negotiate off the price of a CPO car. I should point out you do not try to negotiate down. You start out low and reluctantly -- if necessary and it will be -- up your offer but by ever decreasing amounts.

For example what I have done is after my initial offer which was rejected allowed myself to be talked into upping my offer. I said I'd think about it and walked outside and called a friend and chatted a few minutes with her. I was quite animated waving my arms around and acting agitated.

Afterwards I returned and upped my offer by $250. I do not recall now if I upped it again but I do recall my new higher offer was not accepted. I wondered why as I had done my research and believed my offer was acceptable albeit below what the dealer wanted of course.

I thought about this some and realized I had forgot to allow for the flooring cost the dealer had in the car. I returned and asked to see the car again and I wanted to start the engine and check for any signs up smoking on startup. (At the initial start up the engine smoked some.) The salesman said I could start the engine but could not drive the car again. I started the engine and no smoke. But I also used this opportunity to check when the vehicle was manufactured and then estimated the flooring cost and upped my offer by that amount.

The sales manager accepted my offer. The car was a new 2002 Boxster that I bought in January of 2002 for nearly $5K under sticker.

Another time, in 2009, I bought a pristine 2003 996 Turbo with a CPO warranty -- 2 years, 100K miles -- for $5K under the asking price.

How much under the asking price depends upon various things so your mileage may vary but remember price is not fact only an opinion. The seller (dealer) is entitled to his opinion but so are you the prospective buyer.

The dealer likely has no more in the car than the car's wholesale/trade-in value so this sort of sets a floor (or a starting point) for the car's price.

My experience with my Turbo's CPO warranty is it was pretty darn good. it covered a snapped radiator fan motor shaft (and the radiator the fan blade assembly dented when the shaft snapped), noisy serpentine belt idler/tensioner roller bearings, a broken shifter (6-speed manual), a leaking transmission selector shaft seal (tranny replaced with one shipped from Germany), a failed clutch accumulator and slave cylinder. All of these problems occurred between when I bought the car in June 2009 with just 10K miles to June 2011 with just over 50K miles on the car.

NOTE: CPO is essentially the same as their new car warranty, which is very good.

Thanks

I just bought a Cayenne over the weekend from Hennesey. Are you looking there as well? I was able to get a little bit off my CPO'd car. One thing to look at is what all they did to the car to get it to CPO spec. Did they put new tires, change fluids, recondition wheels/replace a wheel? All are costs that should be considered in your offer (to an extent). In my case, I was only able to get around $1k off, but I had looked around a while (nationwide) for the specific Cayenne I wanted, and they had it priced about $1k lower than other dealers. So I guess I got $2k off.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Appreciated
Yes I looked at Hennesey. They have few CPOs and Looks like they don't negotiate much

Will do some research.

I see there are several brand new 2014 Boxsters in long island area. They are discounting it substantially. Anyone here know why they have still 2014 models? (anything wrong with these?)

If you look at Foreign Cars Italia then do yourself a favor and avoid Charlotte... The Greensboro team is fantastic though and worth the drive vs dealing with the Charlotte location...

A friend of mine bought his 911 cab from a dealer in (or near) LI. He got a heck of a discount on a new car that had been sitting for over a year. I wonder if it's the area, or the dealer, but they can't stay in business selling cars at cost or less. You (Love_Porsche) should include a link or two.

As for the OP's question: CPO is a warranty. As stated, it generally implies that the car has been inspected and has good tires, hasn't been bouncing off the revlimiter a whole lot, etc. but in the end it's still just a warranty and you should consider it as such. It costs the dealer around $2K to CPO a 981. Everything is negotiable.

I live in NC but bought my Boxster in Philly because I got a better price there that mode than made up for the additional cost of flying up to get it. Don't be afraid to travel.

Part 2 of the question: how good is the warranty? It's pretty good, it covers a lot but not everything. Go to the Porsche web site and read the exclusions. Or ask the dealer for a copy of the warranty. Don't rely on what you read from Internet forums. What applied to Jim-Bob's 2013 911 back in 2014 may not apply to your 2015 981 in 2016.

Thank you. I ended up buying a new car out of state. Like what you did
