Passenger's Side Window Does Not Close Properly - Help!

Hi, I recently noticed rain water coming into the cabin of my '02 986 Boxster S from the passenger's side window. It turns out that when I open and close the passenger door, with the windows up, the top edge of the glass does not seal with the roof correctly. I'm guess it's not dropping or raising a crack, like it should, for air-pressure release, when I'm opening / closing the door.

I simply do this to fix the problem: Lower the window and close it again, when the door is closed. When I do this, the top of the glass seals properly with the roof, and nothing leaks. But if I open the door with the window up, and simply shut it, the window won't seal right. Essentially, every time that I open the close the passenger's door, I have to manually lower and raise its window for it to seal right. Interesting, when this manual process happens, I hear a slight clunk in my door panel, as if something was not catching before, and now is caught and aligned.

Has this happened to anyone? What is the culprit, and the fix?

Thanks!

It sounds like either you have a problem with the window regulator or the microswitch in the door or perhaps it has just lost its limit settings. The easiest thing to try is the window limits - to reset, remove the negative lead to the battery for a few minutes (make sure that you have your radio code handy). After you reconnect the power, you need to reset the window limits. You do that by lowering the window all the way and hold the switch down for a few extra seconds then raise it all the way up and hold the switch a few extra seconds and then repeat the process on the other window.

If that doesn't fix the problem then you will need to check the microswitch in the door or the window regulator. The guys over on Pedro's board have dealt with this a good bit. You can check them out at www.pedrosboard.com

Same problem in my 2006 Cayman.....turned out to be a bad window controller. Porsche dealer diagnosed and replaced the controller. I believe it was about $300-350 with labor.
You could DIY if you are comfortable with removing the door cover and associated internals.
