Help with 06 Cayman S DME Readout

Hi all,
Long time lurker and first time poster here. Mainly lurking because I don't have a Cayman yet (but wanted one). Currently looking at a Cayman S that I got a DME readout for. See below for results:

Range 1: 125 ignitions at 987.600 hours
Range 2: 6 ignitions at 760.900 hours
Range 3: 2 ignitions at 760.900 hours
Range 4: 2 ignitions at 760.900 hours
Range 5: 2 ignitions at 760.900 hours
Range 6: 0
Total operating hours: 998.600
Miles are just under 30k

I guess the question is, does this look right to you? I don't really see how you can have 2 ignitions at range 3-5 all at the same time. I could just not understand how to read these properly though. I would imagine it would be a bit more progressive? Like 125, 100, 75, 30, 13 or something.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

It doesn't look right to me. But it is hard to know for sure.

One thing one has to keep in mind is the over rev counters and the time stamps assocated with them along with the total engine run time are pretty important to Porsche. Whether Porsche replaces an engine or not hinges often on what the over rev counters show or don't show.

To protect against tamper I suspect Porsche has come up with some algorithm to store non-zero values in the higher counters to know if counters have been tampered with.

Assuming the values are real, the over revs occurred 237 hours ago. At an average speed of say 30mph that was ~7100 miles ago.

If the engine runs ok now after a suitably long test ride/drive it would appear the engine survived the high revs with no damage.

If you like the car you have to decide if you can live with knowing the engine has (probably) been exposed to some pretty high revs.

The first rule of used car buying is there is always another car so you shouldn't be concerned about walking away from this one and resuming your search.

I checked my Durametric documentation, and here are what the 6 rev ranges are:

Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM

I have read on P-9 that there was a bug in the 2006 Cayman ECUs related to over revs. You might want to see if the car ever received that ECU update.

Looks totally fine to be. The ones with "2" ignitions appear to be an anomaly.
On a side note, the car looks like it's never been driven in a "spirited" fashion....that car needs to be driven!

Good luck

I took this question to my local dealer, when I got my new keys made, last week.

They pulled my DME records (again) and confirmed 1 ignition at 4,5,6. They checked and said that they couldn't find any software update that reflected correction of such an issue, and hadn't heard of such an issue being correctable. They confirmed that my car was up to date with all software releases. No outstanding TSB.

I'm taking it as a software or storage anomaly. I don't even like having cycles at 7700 RPM, but I did have zone 3 fires. I tend to shift at or before 6500.
