Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the Boxster community, but not to the Porsche brand (currently have a 997TT in the stable)
I bought an '06 Boxster off a co-worker here for a decent price ($20K). It's midnight blue metallic over natural brown leather. It's a non-"S" car and is a tip since my wife doesn't drive stick. Fully loaded with Nav, full leather, heated seats, and bose.
It was a 2 owner car and has 19K miles on it.
I cruised it around town for a week and could tell it needed rubber and probably had been a garage queen without much routine maintenance. the ride was harsh, and it felt very anemic. So I had my mechanic go through the car and do:
All filters and fluids
New Michelin Tires
4 wheel alignment
coil packs
spark plugs
the difference is night and day.. All said and done I am into the car for about $23K. Can't even buy a well optioned Camry for that kind of money.
I may look at the IMS bearings in the future should we decide to keep it longer
Just saying hello, and looking forward to learning more about these fun little machines.

Great car and great buy. And we know its more fun to drive a slow car fast. RE: the IMS Bearing - I don't know that there is any scientific proof, but the tips seem to have a lower incidence of problems. I had a 2002S tip for 13 years, put 80K miles on it and checked for signs for IMS bearing damage on every oil change - never a sign of a problem raising its head.
Hope you and your spousal unit enjoy it for many smiles!

Going to enjoy it and roll the dice for now.
I think you will be fine with the IMS. Just cut the oil filter apart at each oil change and look for signs of bearing material, and be ready to take action is any shows up. In the mean time, drop the top and enjoy some open air driving.
Thank you very much.

Terrific deal on a great handling car. I have always loved the Boxster. I have a '10 C4S coupe 6 speed and a '71 914-6. I always considered the Boxster the natural evolution of the 914-6. I hope your wife loves the car.
