I've owned several M cars and I'm seriously considering a 2014 Cayman. I test drove one and loved it. It didn't have a lsd so I have a little concern on the track. I only drove it on the street but I've been tracking my m3's for years and they all have it. Is it really gonna be missed on the P car on track?

 

I'm sorry, but what is lsd?

 

Limited Slip Differential, which was only available as a package with PTV (Porsche Torque Vectoring). It's not a commonly spec'd option on the 981.

 

Not many Porsches have had LSDs. My '11 Spyder, '12 Cayman R, and current '16 Spyder have it. It's nice to have but not a show stopper. Some 981s have PTV instead of. I've had 4 M cars, 3 M3s and a Z4M Coupe. You'll find with the Cayman the only limiting factor is the tires. Power is very linear and you'll have gobs more confidence entering corners than you're used to.

 

Have had two M cars as well.. Z4M and an E93. Never tracked either of those, but I can tell you the 981 is leagues ahead in handling and confidence. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

 

What exactly is the issue with the tires ?
Why not just change them out ?

 

OEM tires are not the best you can get. That's all. Yes, easily remedied. I'm bummed that Bridgestone doesn't offer the RE11 in 20"

 

What about Continentals or Yokohamas ?

 

There are good tires at 20" like the Pirelli PZ4, but none compare to the RE11.
