2014 Boxster - spoiler switch issue

Guys - I am in need of painting my new spoiler (knocked off in an accident)...and I just want to verify the operation of the override switch.
It appears once it is pushed, the spoiler will un-retract and stand up.
However, it cannot be reset to auto-mode until the car is started again.
Is that the case ?
My mechanic was going crazy over this....but I appeared to have stumbled on the solution after trial-and-error.
I just want to verify the operation, that's all.

That is correct -- if you deploy the spoiler manually and it remains deployed while it is off, it won't auto retract until the car is started again and reaches about 9 MPH. I you start the car and hit the spoiler button, the red light will come on and in that case the spoiler will remain deployed no matter what.

Turning the car on and off resets the button to it's default setting... off.

Simple thing to keep in mind... if the red button is on - the spoiler is deployed.

The only confusing thing with it is if you have the spoiler deployed manually, then come to a stop, you THEN have to push and hold the button down until the red light is off to be sure it's down all of the way. If you don't the spoiler will only retract as long as you have your finger on the button.

Was I clear?
