Time for the daily Cayman update

BTW that was supposed to be (MIS-SHIFT)

Boy this is getting pretty heated lol, you keep talking about modded Caymans while I'm thinking stock vs stock. Granted the TT will get its *** kicked on a short and twisty track, but there are tracks and there are tracks if you know what I mean.
A GT3 is race derived hardcore 911 wich is way more track dedicated than a Turbo, in all fairness whe should compare the 997 GT3 with the Cayman because the chassis design of the 996 is what, 10 years old?

Also, this thread is about modded caymans. Seemingly lots of cayman mod activity. . . tuners recognize a notable opportunity with this car.

Now I started this thread so I realise it's about a modded Cayman, my replies to JP st Louis's posts were made from a stock vs stock point of view.
I think comparing stock cars is a foregone conclusion since Porsche worked pretty hard to detune the Cayman so it didn't infringe on its big brother's territory.
It's interesting. I tend to read that sort of stuff on the net and the mags and think 'yeah, whatever, just a bunch of conspiracy theory stuff. . blah blah.'
Then you talk to some of the race shops that have torn apart the cayman and you realize that there's quite a bit of truth in that. In fact, Porsche AG has communicated to several privateer race teams that they do not want to see the Cayman raced, and have even approached at least one race series and stated that they would not endorse the Cayman if allowed in, and will not support it if it is allowed.
Also rumors of experiments with cup cars having the engine moved forward and down ever so slightly.
Hmmmm.

Yes the mid-engined platform has the most potential as a handling platform, but if Porsche would change the 911 from being a rear engined car into someting else they would probably (further) alienate a considerable amount of the costumers who consider themselves 'purists'.
In the thread I mentioned above, I stated that I'd rather take an Exige over a Cayman mainly because in stock form the Cayman is what you said, detuned, in other words not as good as it could have been. Again this is all from a stock vs stock point of view, if you take in consideration the potential wich a modded Cayman has, then that's a whole different story.

Let's get this straight I am one of the most passive people when it comes to E-debates. I am only stating like frayed said that Porsche is now protecting the inferior 911. (flame on) Porsche AG should go race the Cayman and create lineage but instead they would rather sell you the 100 plus thousand dollar cars not the 50-75 grand …. BTW: The best so far is the Cayman GT 550HP bi-turbo..Wicked cool
Peace

please do not forget, because of the number of units of Boxster’s produced and the pepper, you can look at those for helping Porsche become the most profitable car company. 12-15 years ago Porsche came very close to being bankrupt.

i have a cayman s and elise sport pack. elise is stiffer, but it's no faster than cayman. the two car produce same lap time, within 1 sec depending on how i feel that day.
and before ppl say that caymans are 70-80k, well, they either dont know how to option the car or can't haggle, i got two caymans both 60k out the door.

What's interesting is that the Elise was supposed to be a hardcore, focused, ltw, track car. It has no redeeming features as a street car. In reality, it underdelivers for a car that is supposed to be that hardcore. I was on the wait list for one, and drove my dealer's demo twice, and was left underwhelmed.
Pretty interesting that the Cayman, with all its refinement and daily usability is as fast as a car like the Elise. Could you imagine of the Porsche built a cayman under a directive to build the most focused track car they could?
