So, I was thinking about these cayman conversions

and with the announcement of the 49k non-s cayman.

Perhaps:

Order one stripped, through one of the tuners who is doing conversions. Should be able to get one at 45kish.

Drop in 3.8L X51, LSD, and a real suspension like a set of Motons.

Badda-Bing. GT3 killer at less money, unique, and fun.

I understand from RUF that, based on the chassis of the Boxster vs. the Boxster S, the base Cayman may not be an appropriate basis for conversion due to some chassis differences and the weaker 5 spd tranny. But, if you are a conversion customer, would be nice to save 10 grand.

I think you will be able to get the standard Cayman with the 6 speed trans, and that would be the way to spec it

You can get the 6speed if you order PASM with the car.

So long as the 6 speed stays under 380NM (280ft/lb) of torque, the transmission isn't the weak point:

Not sure who makes the Porsche 5 speed, doesn't appear to be Getrag.
