Wow, I never knew I even stood a remote chance of beating a Cayman. He had 1/4 of a car lead, that's when I heard his exhaust just explode...I matched and floored my slk, heavy 1 passenger. When the showdown began we were running 65mph–70mph, I broke even with him at about 80mph, and we continued to gun it until 126mph and by then i was already 2 cars ahead.
I slowed down and he overtook me and then proceeded to exit on 6th st. Slate or Seal gray Gayman w/ blk interior and unknown mods ZERO, White SLK350 w/ red interior and no mods ONE. wooohooo.

Sensitive crowd. Not bragging, just sharing a surprising experience, i thought i'd be toast against a 295hp Porsche, but the outcome was interesting for sure. I guess the 4.9s 3.8L time must be accurate if the stockie is so slow.
I seriously was expecting more. After that bout, I think I do have the confidence to go up against a Cayman on track with the 350 and win. Any takers? Sounds like fun.

A magazine clocked an SLK350 in 5.4seconds to 60mph ; The Cayman S manual equipped cars are fast but the Auto's are really sluggish
Yogi: Don't get your panties in a twist. Cayman S, with a good lead, got beat in a 65–130mph sprint. Bottomline, with no derogatory remarks, is for a passionate, spirited sports car with a Porsche emblem on it, to be butt-whipped by an automatic, luxury, hardtop convertible, heavy 1 passenger is just not acceptable in my books, esp. when you're shelling out at least 70,000 for a well-optioned Cayman S. You might as well just get a Boxster S or an SLK55, and enjoy the drop top with some umph!
Porsche needs to add more punch to the car, and not just tailor it and pull it back, specifically to close a "gap" in the buyer's market from the boxster to the 911. It's truly gay to me; to hold back the potential of a great car for market domination/extra buck.

wait you are putting up a challenge between your SLK350 and a cayman S on the track? If that is the case, then please someone lend me their cayman S and I will throw down a nice sum of money on the race. I am not bashing your car, the SLK is a great car but it is not a purpose built track car. It is a luxury convertable while the cayman S is a track car. I drove a cayman S recently at a track day where I instructed a bunch of porsche execs, customers, and salesman. The slk350 is NO match for the cayman S on the track and it would almost be unfair for the slk
I'll throw down all kinds of cash if I am the Cayman pilot. I am not surprised by your incredible conquest and frankly I agree its a little weak that such a great chassis doesn't have another 40HP. Persoanlly wouldn't buy one unless I was a huge track ***** but if I was doing a lot of autoX, DE stuff, can't think of a better car for that.
I hate to be a paper racer on this one, but I couldn't resist.
The slk weighs 3250 lbs while the cayman s weighs 2950.
slk horsepower /tq : 265/250 cayman s : 295/252
I don't know how slow auto caymans are(i wouldn't own an automatic sports car for the life of me) but it was either a bad driver, a driver breaking the car in, or an auto.
I've have varying degrees of drawing dead even to slightly winning against my friend's e46 m3 smg and evo mr.
But good for you nice win, if you are on the east coast, I'm in DC, I would take you up on your challenge for a race anytime.
But the Gayman comment, grow up, seriously. We used to call SLK drivers the same way back when, but come on, thats childish.
You don't think your 997S was compromised in potential power? Every porsche that is made now fills a definite gap, explain to me why the 3.8 in the S does not produce 380 or 415 hp like the gt3 motors do? If the 3.8 was tuned to its fullest potential, then short of weighing less and having a rawer setup, the gt3 would be compromised in its "lore" by a 380 hp more comfortable carrera s.
you don't think your carrera s was built as a compromise to fit a specific price point between carrera owners and gt3/turbo buyers? Sorry to let you know, but it is.
All porsches are, nearly every sports car <100K is a compromise.
The only one two that I could think of are the m3 csl, and the gt3.
And what did you think? You would get cool e-props for coming to the cayman section and typing gayman? here are two eprops for you cool guy.
