As far as mods, I am gonna go light so just rims and maybe exhaust to start off..the plan is to upgrade to an S or a Cayman S in the future so that all the mods i am doing hopefully can carry over to the next car. So far, the car has been awesome except that it is a bit underpowered, in which it is expected but it was within my budget ..my only concern is reliability as thats what i've heard from all sorts of sources..however, i am keeping my fingers cross and just gonna enjoy the car w/o worrying about it...thanks for the welcome...

I've got a 987S so I can't check the offsets - give me the sizes and offsets of your wheels, and BB give me yours and I'll find out. Might need spacers (likely in the rear at least) but that's easy.

Todd should be sotck 996 offset and prob same as 986

here's the stock offset
The sizes/offsets are --
Front: 18 x 8 offset 52 mm
Rear: 18 x 10 offset 65 mm

BB,
Welcome to the board and to a new way of life. We have a lot of fun here. Please keep in mind that modding is a disease. A lot of folks here have a lot of experience with the ups and downs of modding. Good luck.

Dave

If he has the stock 17's that show on the picture, I believe those are 6.5 inches wide with an offset of 55mm in the front, which means he will need at least 7mm spacers up front, depending on how much clearance is already there between the rim and the strut, as there is a 16mm difference between the two. On the rear, it won't work at all - no way. There's a 50mm difference between the two, and you can't get 5cm spacers - that's a block of aluminum that will add about 40 lbs to the car and no bolt is long enough.

Yeah, i got the 17" stockers since i was thinking about upgrading to aftermarket rims so therefore i didn't purchase the 19" OEM ones...oh well, i guess Alex's rims won't work for me...the hunt for rims go on..thanks for your help teutonic...

hmm..so you are saying that the base 987 and the 987S requires a different offset?
