my sales guy told me that as long as i didn't jump in the car and drive for 5 hours with cruise control on it would be fine. meaning, vary the speed and rpms.

I've always done the 1000 mile "drive like a granny" break-in.

However, I've heard recently that before Porsche receives an engine for installation into the car, it already has run for hours at different loads during testing and really doesn't need any further break-in. Our engine break in "paradigm" is left over from the days of poor motor design and tolerances.

Anyone heard similar stories?

Dave

One need only compare the USDM "break-in" period to that of our European counterpart. I think this topic has been debated quite heavily of recent vintage. IIRC, there is no such verbiage surrounding any such "break-in period" in the European market, or if there is, it is dramatically different than the type of period we are expected to follow here.

I believe in the US it is 2000 miles and under 4000RPM, per the owners manual. I believe my dealer added the proverbial "Don't use the cruise control" as well. Lets face it, cruise control is for guys with automatics anyway, and none of us here have slushboxes, right??
