Eibach vs. H&R Springs

Hey everyone,

I'm doing some research on loewring springs for my PASM equipped 2006 Cayman S. I've read that the TechArt springs are actually made by Eibach, but I have no confirmation that the amount of lowering is identical. On Eibach's website it shows 1.2" front/rear. It appears that the TechArt springs are a bit lower than this.

The other option is H&R. These show a 1.4" front, and 1.2" rear lowering.

Does anyone have real world experience with the Eibach springs? I have used them before, but I was always dissapointed that the front always ended up looking higher than the rear on my previous vehicles. I've had H&R coil-overs with excellent results.

My only concern is that I will be upgrading to 20" wheels when my 19" tires need replacing. I don't want rubbing in the front to be an issue under hard cornering, which is why I'm a bit more reluctant to just go with the H&R's up front, and I do not want the added expense of coil-overs.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

Techarts look perfect on a 911 and don't rub with 20s. I am sure they would be engineered to the same tolerances for the Cayman. Also, a lot of people run 20s with H&Rs without any problems.

i've done this research before and i've seen some photos with eibach springs.

they tend to have a higher front compared to the rear end.

i used H&R and 20's techart in my car and no rubbing or anything so far.

Thanks for the response.

Do you have PASM? Curious as to how much harsher the ride is with the H&R's, how your ground clearance is (speed bumps), and if you had to do any rear fender modifications for the 20's to fit without rubbing. I'm assuming you're running the 305 tire in the rear?

Thanks again,
Brad

yes, i do have PASM.

the ride is very harsh now compared to before all the mods. i think this is mainly because of the low profile tires that im using. i dont find any problem when going over speed bumps, but you should be careful when going in and out of drive way.

there is no problem about the rear fender. but you have to allign the car after installing the springs and the new wheels.

I had many issues with my Eibach that they did not care to address or recognize. I will never buy another Eibach product!

On average I sell more H&R for Porsche than Eibach, but I would not go as far as to say because it's a superior product. I have an equal share of issues with both companies.

A good installer and alignment shop is perhaps more important. Personally I would not install Eibachs. H&R or established Porsche tuner parts only.

I've had the exact oppsite experience. I own a shop and had many more issues with H&R products and their lack of support. At least Eibach has someone in technical support that you can talk to and resolve issues.

I've had many sagging or wrong height H&R springs where I have never had that issue with Eibach. I have sold and/or installed over 75 sets of springs so I think I have a good basis on which to make this judgement from.

Just another data point.

To Answer the original poster's question, at least on Porsche applications, both seem to work well and I've never had any issues with either brand. My issues with H&R are mostly with Audi, Mazda, and BMW applications.

H&R has been the spring of choice from the factory on many a high performance Porsche. IMO that is enough reason to go with them. Let Eibach stick to Mustangs and Camaros.

I went thru 3 sets of rear tires and 3 alignments before driving the porsche 250 miles to IA and having their guy do it. Ask Kasper this car sits low. True Eibach has a tech dept. but they were as helpful as a case of the clap. I have it dialed in now and it is speced to Euro specs.
