I bought a Cayman

Long story short I kept driving 911's and I never really fell in love with the actual car or a combo of the car and pricepoint. I have known for a long time that I was very much in like with the Boxster but my ego always said no.

So yesterday I stumbled on this Cayman and we went back and forth on the car literally from 58K to 55K to 54K and then this morning 52.5K deal that wound up being very doable for me. (Car originally stickered at 74220) I was told yesterday that they went ahead and sold it to a wholesaler and was coming to pick it up. Called me back and said it was still there and I finally said yes this morning and I guess the wholesaler had gotten a ride from an hour away to pick it up and they snatched it back for me literally as the guy was walking out to drive away in it. Salesguy said he was pretty pissed. On top of getting stranded I guess he already had the car sold. Bummer.

Here is the equip.

Basalt
Full Beige Leather
Sport seats
Sport Chrono
Bose
Cd Changer
Sport steering wheel
Bi-xenons
rain sensor/ auto dim
Makassar wood package
Makassar rear center console
Yellow gauge faces
19" Carrera S wheels with crests

3750 miles on the odo.

I got the car for 52.5K which for the equipment level seems pretty good. I did find several other pp cars for close to the price but less equipment and no exclusive stuff.

Anyway, I'll post pics later.

And for Phoenix locals, I bought it from Chapman BMW on Camelback, same place I got my M3 and again they were very polite and even funny during the transaction.

hey man, im very glad for you! its a cayman or cayman S? ive talked to you soooo many times about what you were going to get and finally you made a decision!?! caymans are such great cars. they looks great, sound awesome, they are fast (low 13s@106-107 mph), and they really tear it up in the twisties. you really took a long time to decide, but afterall, you picked a winner. where are these pics, i wanna see the makassar wood trim. sounds like an interesting combo.

Yeah, I have asked me the same question because a normal Cayman for over 70k$? I think for that price it must be a CaymanS.

Sorry, yes its an S. I just got home from picking it up. Its better than I thought. Thats always a cool realization on the ride home.

My eight year old had a big ole grin on his face going through some sweeping freeway interchanges. I was giggling. I realize I just want to have a little fun and what a car to accomplish this goal. I think this will be a good fit for me.

I didn't think I would track a 911 but I think I will track this.

i have an m3 now, and i do love it. its exciting and fun. i think that the bmw M's are the most fun you can have without stepping up to the P, F, or L car territory. they are raw, and have a lot of hp. the wieght in another issue which can be solved fortunately. a stock cayman S is such a sick car. it has EVERYTHING you want. its a great challenge for an m3, but stock for stock, the cayman S is the ONLY way to go.

what mods do you have planned? i think a set of coilovers, a full exhaust and intake and short shifter is all you will need. these cars are fast because they are soooo light. i have seen people fun very low 1/4 mile times at trap speeds of 108+ with an avg trap of 105+. i mean for crying out loud theres two times out that show 12.5 and 12.7 with traps speeds of 111.9 and 112.5 respectively with only exhaust, headers, intake and tune on the 12.5 and exhaust, headers, and intake on the 12.7 time. thats damn good considering the 997S runs about the same mid 12s with a trap of around 114 mpg. thats going to be a great track car too.

Congrats! I love my Basalt black especially in the sunlight. Just had my first track day ever in March and it was a blast. It was an open run day and I had a guy in a C6Z06 behind for like 3-4 laps he was way faster in the straights but my friend who was a flagger said I looked much faster in the technical section. He was taking it easy but he said he was impressed none the less. Have fun!

Great car; great price. Drive it for three years and convert it to a D stock PCA racer.

Thanks, my digicam is **** up so no pics... so lame. No mods for awhile. I ran the car through my little road course (surface streets) in my neighborhood and there is one kink that I blitzed through at 72.5mph in My S2000, I was much slower in my Vette, M3 and C55. Today first time through in the Cayman, 75. I freaked. The only thing that needs modding is me.

Short shifter would be great, all the things you mention sound great actually but the only thing I want to do right off is adjust the pedals cause I can't heel toe at all right now. Other than that I am just looking forward to exploring the car. I'm pretty dumbfounded at how fun it is. Had I driven it this hard previously I may have bought one awhile back.
