Actually the project mine will be going into isn’t a Boxster or a Cayman. It is however mid rear and I would like to use either a Boxster or Cayman case. The time saved by using a good trans is astronomical. During endurance races even if it is only saving you .5 seconds a lap you will eventually earn entire laps worth of time over the course of a longer event. It’s worth every penny. You don’t question it when people drop large amounts of cash of engines, but the trans is a far more important factor then an engine in road racing. I could compensate for the standard gearbox by adding power, but to get those numbers in any car the 15-28k you could have dropped on a trick drive setup starts to sound like a great value, especial when considering how much drivability you get out of it.

I don't question people spending money on a good trans or anything in the driveline... Hell I have had my hands on a few quaifes in my day, but when you ask about putting it in a boxster that raises a few eyebrows.

If it's just to bolt to the case and drop in another car, thats a bit different. Quaife and zeroshift will both make you a custom bellhousing to put their trans on any engine imaginable. It's about $20k, but could be another $10k in custom parts by the time you're up and running.

Just wondering, anyone confirm by what means Porsche get the certain rotations out of the gearbox (Boxster vs. 911.)? Like I said engine rotation is the same, so do they insert an idler gear somewhere, switch ring gear sides? I’ve never cracked open one of their boxes so I’m just curious.
