Does anyone make a sequential for the Boxster or Cayman?

As a kit, no. I've always wondered about swapping in a Cup system.

Not necessarily as a kit. Is there any way to convert over a unit meant for a 911 cup car? I know engine rotation is the same for all these engines, or else the common 996 conversions for the Boxster wouldn’t be possible. But at the same time if you used a 911 trans in a mid rear setup you would have what would equate to 6 reverse gears.

So the direction of rotation of the output shaft/ tires should be the result of the side of the pinion gear the ring contacts. One side will pull the ring gear upwards spinning the tires one way, the other way around is contacting the face of the ring at the opposite side so it will be pulling the ring gear downwards creating the opposite rotation.

This sort of helped me think of it more clearly. I flipped the pinion instead of the ring but it’s the same effect as changing the contacting side of the ring gear.

Am I even on the right track here I have not really thought about it that much. So if I’m thinking correctly, that means there should be some way to swap parts around and change the layout of a 911 trans to work in a mid rear? Well in theory anyways, I haven’t actually ripped apart any Porsche trans before so the plausibility of the parts and case being compatible is kind of out there.

Some of your logic sounds good, but I believe that a few of the boxster Trans are identical to that of in the 911...

Are you looking for a sequential tranny or would electric/hydraulic clutch and shifter actuation be OK?

Maybe this question would be a good one for Porsche Motorsport North America. I just don’t recall ever seeing a sequential setup before in any mid rear Porsche. There is more difference to the sequential transmissions and regular H pattern units then just selectors and linkage I believe. Especially when comparing a race to a street gearbox. Gear cut, the lack of syncros and addition of dogs in their place just to name a few larger differences. Clutchless very quick up shifts are what I’m looking for, and a stock gearbox wont deal with that very well.

I have a link to the Euro manufacturer of Porsche's sequential they use in the Cup and RSR cars... but I don't have it on this computer.

This kit from Cartronic I found this morning looks promising. Not exactly what I was looking for but if it can cut gear change times and eliminate miss shifts then it would be an incredible value compared to a complete new box. Anyone have experience with it? Let me know when the Cayman is done, ill be interested to hear how it goes.

That thing will be a little super car when your done with it. Any Idea about cost for the gearbox with all the linkages, displays and elecronics? Are you changing the gearing up much to make better use of the different power?

I'm curious... why bother? That gearbox/clutch and such will cost more than a boxster?
