K&N , the manufacturer of the oiled filter in question has done it for you.

And I give them credit for being honest enough to put a big WARNING
on them ....

quote from K&N air intake :

".....is a performance product that can be used safely during MILD WEATHER CONDITIONS .
During HARSH and INCLEMENT conditions (rain, snow etc.) you MUST return your vehicle
to stock OEM airbox and intake tract configuration .
Failure to follow these instructions WILL void your warranty "
( the capitals and emphasis are by me )

I don't have a problem understanding the above .

This is actually a true behavior of filtration processes. The particles pass through two "filters" each with different resistances. One filter is the actual fiber part, the other filter is made up of the previously captured particles. This is normally called the filter cake if you read engineering texts.

So as not to wander further off topic... I use a Mahle filter as well. Every autoforum I read no matter the type of vehicle, has a crowd that detests K&N type filters. Plenty of people use K&N filters and apparently have no issues. If you want to try one I say go for it. I choose not to for cost more than anything.

i remember seeing some crazy KN booth at the LA auto show with a machine set up to disprove the "oil on the maf" internet stories that were popping up. don't know if i believe K&N or not, but at least they aren't taking this lightly.
The machine basically had a well oiled filter inside and the machine was constantly blowing high pressure air on it. the maf was clean the entire time.
very elaborate attempt to prove a point.
