The Speedo had to read in KM, so on my 996 I just had to hold the clock adjustment to the left for 5-6 seconds & it switched over to metric.

You need to take the car to get the RIV done at Canadian Tire, it is a pretty simple process but make sure you have the changes made on your car already to save yourself time.

If you have a broker do the paperwork for less then a couple hundred bucks at the border it is pretty simple to import.

You have to pay the duties up front to your broker, & make sure your paperwork is sent to the border 72 business hours before the vehicle is shipped to the border.

I picked up my 06 911 yesterday and dropped it at my NJ office where it was picked up this morning to drive up here in the snow storm , if the border goes smoothly which i still believe it will i am going to take it to Crappy Tire for the RIV stuff , lights and odometer change and then we can decide wether to pay the dealer 1250 for inspection so i get my 9 months of warranty , what do you guys think is that a yes or a no

It is good peace of mind to have a Porsche dealer go over your vehicle. I brought mine in & did all the RIV stuff myself, easy to do as I have a hard time changing a light bulb at home. I had no warrenty so didn't have to worry about that. I still took my car to Porsche to have them do a full service on it as I was unsure when the last one was done & wanted to make sure their were no issues.

I would spend the $1200 if it gave me the warrenty for sure.

I imported my car last friday and Riv took the " Job Management" print out from the dealership with no questions asked. Called up Riv on Saturday morning and they emailed me the form 2 in 30 minutes. Then i turned on the day time running lights in pcm and passed inspection at Canadian tire on the same day. And got the car registered today.

According to my phone call with PCNA. Warranty is good for both US and Canada. But in order to get the recall letter, you need to spend 1200 dollars at the local dealership for the inspection. If you can get the job management print out from the dealership in US, i don't see the need to spend that 1200 bucks.

Why not get the Job Management printout from the dealer that you bought it from (or the dealer that you had the PPI done from)? If not possible, start calling the closest US dealers and offering them $100 for sending the printout to you.

BTW, don't you have just 45 days to get the RIV inspection done? Else it needs to be sent back out of the country? Or did you manage to get an exemption from the RIV folks?

Plated!

..at last.

Thank you very much Abby997TT for the help, was greatly appreciated.

Regarding the 45 days delay, yeah i was a bit worried about it.. But looks like everything was ok. I guess once you submit at least one recall clearance docs to RIV, it's ok.

You think this is bad. We imported a few euro spec cars into the USA in the 80's until PCNA got the USA Gov to make you post a cash bond equal to 4 times the car's value until you complied with all DOT and EPA requirments within a six month time limit. If you don't get it finished in 6 months they'd seize the vehicle and destroy it. An Apple executive had a 959 he keep trying to get Federalized. He kept putting it on a ship and sending out of the country every six months and "re-importing" it.

News Flash! Porsche just reduced the inspection cost to $500 as of Jan 15,2010. Apparently, too many people were complaining about getting screwed! Go figure.
