Great. First Mercedes, then BMW, now Porsche has decided to charge an exorbitant amount of money just so they can continue to charge their extra 20% "Canadian Tax" on all their vehicles at the stealer.
Bull****.
I hate how us Canadians are so apathetic and will take it up the **** without making a sound!

Yeah it does suck when buying a car from the US but the other side of the coin IS....those who have a car here can possibly retain a bit more value in their car!
I personally would buy a car that is already here.....that stuff about having to fix the problems before receiving the letter...definately NOT worth the gamble IMO !

someone needs to find out if RIV will still accept a recall clearance letter from a US dealer and if the list of acceptable cars is still includes Porsche (unlike BWN, etc.)
I imported mine last year and it was so easy. PNA was great to deal with and they issued the recall clearance letter within a week at not cost. They even emailed it to me while I was waiting for the hard copy to arrive in the mail

This blows, the 997 tt was my second choice.
So if I'm bringing in a particular make and a local CDN dealer does not work on US vehicles, how am I supposed to bring it in without a compliance letter? Am I missing something here?

The Canadian stealer will inspect your car, but I am afraid of what they may say, need you to do this that and anything for your car to comply. Can be x $$ or XXX $$$$, they have you by the short and curlies

I just spoke my my mechanic friend who works at Canadian Tire, who did my RIV last year, and he is going to check this out, because he says this is BS also. They are nailing you three times, for out of counrty, out of province, and dealer inspection. Totally Crap!!!
If this is happening, so much for me to upgarde to a TT

The cars in Canada, few and far between to choose from.

Does anyone know if a Recall Letter from a US dealer continues to be acceptable? And are the Porsche calls still listed on the RIV list? Appears Porsche cars are listed on the June 15/09 list. Wonder when this will come into effect?

Thanks for the offer. If I were to get a Porsche, I would be looking in the US market for a TT. You've got a nice ride though.

i wanted to buy a cayman s off this site. its the main reason i registered on here in the first place. I dont understand why i'd even need to involve the dealership. Seems to me I just have a company ship the car to me, and then install the DRL myself (i'll just run a relay off the ignition) and then take it to my mechanic for the out of province inspection and canadian tire for the out canadian compliance inspection. what does the dealership have to do with it?
Call Porsche NA, to find out about the Recall letter and compliance to verify.
Copy and paste from Rennlist below:
Letter of compliance only available through a canadian dealership after they do a full 3 hour inspection (+ oil change). Cost of said inspection: CDN$1200 (not including anything else).
Cost is preset by PCNA.
Lets see how many things the dealer will find before they can give the compliance letter.

This is despicable. Porsche should be ashamed of the way it's treating it's customers. I went south to buy mine last year, after giving Pfaff 6 months to find me a GT3. When they couldn't find a car I went shopping. If I didn't go south I still wouldn't own one.
I expect it will protect resale for owners here to some extent as long as the dollar remains high, I suppose that would apply to US sourced cars to - that will be PCNA's party line to its customers I bet.

The price gap between a US and a CDN vehicle is huge when the exchange rate is about 1.13 or so
. The Porsche prices are also dropping like crazy in the US, especially 996. It just doesn't make sense
