Looking to get into a 360 Modena
Looking to get into a 360 Modena
Probably not this year, but my research starts now.
I've decided to bite the bullet on another exotic car, my last one being an Acura NSX. With the 458 coming out and the economy still in the tank the 360s are getting to the point where I can afford one.
The perfect car for me would be a Coupe, Red, with Shields. A real 6-speed, not an F1 tranny. I simply don't want to deal with the F1 transmissions. Mods like exhaust and stuff wouldn't hurt, but I'd have to keep the price reasonable.
I was hoping there's some local owners that could help me out with some groundwork issues I have.
First off, the maintenance myth. Are these things really pigs like everyone makes them out to be? I'm under the impression that the 360 is considered pretty reliable. I'm not making this out to be a daily driver, but if it's nice on a Friday and I want to go the mountains for a weekend, I want to know that the car can lay out 1000 kms in 3 days without anything going wrong.
The second part of the maintenance myth for me concerns money. I've seen guys on F-Chat say they don't spend much at all, just oil and fluid changes, etc; They ignore the manual's 3,000 mile belt interval (I would too, I refuse to believe that a belt will only last 3,000 miles) and have nothing go wrong. Others spends ten thousand dollars per year to keep it running. How is this possible? I'm of the mind that if it's working, don't touch it. If something breaks, then fix it. Other than genuine preventative maintenance, I'm not for changing something simply for the sake of changing it.
Has anyone used Alberta Ferrari? According to RIV, the mods to bring in an American Ferrari have to be done by an authorized dealer, and Alberta Ferrari is the only one around. Any news/complaints with them?
Is there anything I'm overlooking? Anything basic?

This IS why the car appeals to the rich....even IF it can be affordable to buy, they may be waaay too expensive for the average guy to repair!
I seen a fix where the guy spent $38,000 US for engine parts and it was going to be that amount again for labor....at that point I was done...NO thanks and the repair was of NO fault of the guy!
I am like you and find it hard to believe that a belt would need to be fixed at 3 years or 3,000 miles......BUT I wouldn't bet a NEW motor on it!
Just my $.02....
If you do decide that the 360 IS for you......congrats and GL!

It's like a NSX reunion here.
I considered a 360 as well Ryan. I decided against it for the reasons Stacy said, but because I don't want to spend the money and deal with the minor problems. I absolutely love the F-car, and one day will own one for sure.
A close friend owned one after an NSX & 4 Porsches. He sold it after a year. Little things kept breaking - usually the car was driveable, but it was just annoying, so he sold it.
I'm very happy with the Porsche right now. Reliable, amazing performance, and very different than the NSX. I think my future F-car will be a 430 though.

if i might add, i know the f430 may be out your reach but the newer the ferrari the less headache i heard, i dont own one, but just what i have read on the different forums. You may wanna wait until the 458's come out and see what happens to the price of the 430's, they may drop..... plus if you continue to save you may own a ferrari with far less headache.... GOOD LUCK any route you good, thanks for sharing with us, keep us posted....
