Newbie Hello! :)
Newbie Hello! :)
Hi fellow 6Speeders.
Just thought I'd introduce myself.
With the CDN Dollar appreciating so rapidly, I've decided to take the dive get my hands on a 2005 997, or maybe even 997S from the US. A big step up for me, as the only other car i've purchased has been a '98 Ford Contour.
I've been lurking on this site for a while, and have plenty of searched pages bookmarked - so I'm sure I have process down.
My target price range (excluding shipping, currency conversation, duties, etc, etc) is about 42-43K (US). Within that price range, is that a reasonable range to find a quality '05 997. I think a 997S would be pushing it? I have seen a few 997S' in the 45K range, with 40K miles or so.
Just wondering, what is the max mileage I should be considering for that year, and price point? Also this will be only be my weekend car, as I use public transit for work.
There are a few CPO 997 available for mid 40s, if the vehicle is already CPO'ed, how much effort should I put in to ensure the car is in good shape, mechanically sound, etc? Is independent mechanic check out necessary? Should I even bother to fly down to test drive, inspect it, etc. Or is the CPO validation enough that the car is in excellent shape, and i can be worry free?
If not CPO'ed, then for sure I would be going down, getting a PPI. I've read stuff on the 996 about the RMS and transmission, but cant find any solid info on the 997 - are they free of big problems? (i'll be sure to check for the over-revs)
Agents? Does anyone hired a company such as USAUTOIMPORT.ca to do all the leg work, and then just pick it up? Any reviews about such companies? (preferably in the GTA?)
Lastly, selection? - I'm not seeing too many 997's right now with the color combos I want - do you guys foresee better selection as spring rolls around - or spring just means more buyers in the market, more competition for the nice combos?
I asked alot of questions on this initial post - but hopefully you guys can help out.
Thanks in advance!
