From Alberta to Toronto
Hi Guys, just relocated to Toronto with work and have spent the last 2 months looking for a home (in Oakville) to no avail. I work downtown and have resided myself to the train but wanted to hear about any other areas worth looking at. Obviously I am a car guy so I want to ensure it has a double car garage.
Open to any opinions, would like to find something this month.
Thanks for any help!

Some good deals in north Richmond Hill and also in markham area. All have GO train to downtown. Markham has a boom and you could make a good coin buying the right property.

Prices
Amen to that... it is a little unnerving to be buying into a market that will be correcting in the near term.
Looking to spend $650-$850.

1) For under $650k, you can go a bit North of Brampton. There's a brand new subdivision (Mount Pleasant) by Missisauga rd and Mayfield, 8 minute drive to a nearby GO station. A fully detached home with a 2 car garage on a 41ft lot is around $650k.
2) In the +$800k range, I would recommend Kleinburg (Major Mackenzie & Highway 27), beautiful neighborhood. Kleinburg Hills subdivision is just a bit east of the train tracks. I was very close to buying the Casson C on a 50ft lot but changed my mind the last minute. You can get a 2 car garage fully detached home on a 40ft lot for +$800k. There's another subdivision coming soon, called Impressions, just west of the train tracks and it's a bit cheaper. There's a GO station by Keele and Major Mackenzie.
Hopefully some more 6speeders can help you out with other areas as well. Good luck with your search and with where the real estate is now, you can definitely negotiate on the asking price.

A bunch of us live in The Beach. Close to downtown for your commute. You should be able to find places within your price range but a double car garage may be difficult (single work for you?). Really great little small town within the big city. There are definitely condos too.
Its an awesome family spot. Great public/Catholic schools so when the time comes, you wont feel compelled to fork out $25k/yr per kid.

Thanks!
Anybody have any feedback on Mississauga (SW Cooksville area -- near the Port Credit Go)?
The market is so slow right now...

Budget will work well in Aurora for decent size.
GO train close by with indoor parking.
$700K - 42ft lot, 2 car garage, about 3000 sq ft.
$800K - 50 ft lot, 2/3 car garage (the double deep garage for boats), 3500 sq ft.
That's in the newer area. Not the hustle and bustle of the city. If you drive can go straight down 404/DVP.
Newmarket is a slight drop in price and 5 minutes more drive.
