Manual mode or leave it in Auto??

I find myself shifting manually either with the buttons or the shift lever more often. It shifts way to quick to third from a stop, especially when making a turn from a stop. It sometimes feels like a few seconds before a down shift when you floor it. The turbo lag at times is horrific, I have owned three turbo'd cars and this is by far the worst. At least when I am shifting, I can hold the gear and get the turbos spinning. How is everyone else driving their's? When I want to go, it has to think about it much too long.

Hey Griza,

Time to upgrade to new CTT....Just kidding.

Seriously there is no turbo lag in my new CTT. I just leave it in auto and step on the gas. Go for a test drive for a comparison.

Its not so much turbo lag as tranny lag...I have to fully stomp on it and wait for what seems like forever to get my CTT to downshift. Annoying, but mine is pretty much just used for baby hauling anyway.

JDN17 is infamous around these parts
Usually I'll just leave it in auto. If I need it to be more responsive, simply turning off PSM will do the trick for me. I like the more aggressive shift pattern with PSM not being on.

My auto drives me nuts...its never in the right gear and its slow to down change if you need "a little extra". For me its the weak link in an otherwise brilliant car.

tiptronic buttons are the only option. Conversley I never have to do a manual override on my BMW.

I turn off PSM also, but then it doesn't shift into 6th when on the highway. The lag doesn't seem to happen all the time, but you notice it when it does. It is one insane SUV and I love it, just wish it was more responsive at times.
