Keyless Entry and Start Option Question

For those who have this option on the Cayenne I would like to hear from you how you feel the system works (sensitivity, speed of activation, responsiveness, etc.).

Also, does yours lock the doors automatically when it does not sense the remote any longer? The reason I asked is that mine did to my wife when she left the fob in her purse and left it in the car on the back seat. I don't think mine locks automatically and I don't believe I have anything set to do that. Does anyone else have intermittent issues with this option or know if my experience is normal?

Thanks,
Dave

Best option on the car, knock on wood I have yet to have any issues with mine. Its vey sensitive and quick to respond when I touch the handle. Also it will not lock the doors when the key is left in the car.

I also have this feature on my CLS and the Cayenne is slightly better. The CLS will not lock until the passenger has closed the door, unlike the Cayenne. Also the CLS is not touch, you have to pull the click behind the lever, when you open the door. I like to touch the rear door handle as I roll up to the car for a even speedier get away.

No starter button so you still need to turn the ignition.
In LA I have found this is useless with the amount of Valet I do.

I personally think there are far better options...see below

No issues here. Very responsive and will not lock with key in car.

I had it on an '06 BMW 7 series and it was just OK. On my '07 Audi S8 it was wonderful. I totally disagree with LAbull. For me it is a must have. My '06 CTTS does not have it, and I really miss it. It's on the '09 CTTS I have on order!

BTW, make sure you have the dummy key in the ignition. That way the actual key never leaves your pocket.

Roger that! The core key is always in the ignition so I'm not sure why the car locked and why she couldn't open it with the key locked in the car. It seems to me that the key would have been recognized while in the car which would have prevented a lock out.

Upon calling the dealer (and 800 PORSCHE) they had no suggestions other than a)have the car towed to the dealer or b)fedex another key from home to the location of the car. Neithers seems like a good option. I wonder what lock out assistance is for with Roadside Assistance.

Is this an extra option you have to get?....sorry for the dumb question, cause mine dosent seem to be keyless entry and the lock/unlock on the same button is soooo annoying

doesn't this affect an insurance claim if stolen with the key in?

No. The dummy key is a plastic key that is used to turn the ignition tumbler. Having the key on your person is still require since it detects the key wirelessly. No key around and the car won't start...

Pretty happy to hear this option exists. I just bought a 2004 Cayenne Turbo, haven't even picked it up yet from the dealer.

I know you don't have to take the key out of your pocket to unlock and open the door, you just grab the handle, so does that also mean I have the Keyless entry and Go feature?

I didn't get this on my last BMW and I was always pissed because I hate reaching into my pocket for the keys especially in the winter or something. Agree it only makes sense if you leave the dummy key in the ignition.

Keyless entry and keyless go is different. I believe 2004 Cayenne only had keyless entry. That means you can use remote to open your doors but you still have to take your key out to start the car.

Incorrect, the feature is called entry and drive. A option on all Cayennes. With the remote in your pocket you touch the door handle, it unlocks then the plastic dummy key stays in the ignition, you then use this to start it. Key never leaves your pocket.
