[08 V6] BMC vs K&N filter... which one?
#3
I would avoid K&N filters. Or any filters that are "re-usable". I tried the K&N Filter and all it resulted in was me wasting money to replace the MAF. I'm sure it was user error in that I put too much oil on the filter after washing it, but I don't find the instructions to be adequate that we should be doing it. And for the cost of a filter, it's not worth the $200-300 replacement of the MAF. Actually that was on my Audi TT so I don't know how much it would be on the Cayenne.
You'll know you messed up the MAF if your idle is very rough going from 1.5K RPM down to even stalling.

I have used both in the past they work equally well I would say the BMC offers a little more filtration (opinion only) as it seems slightly thicker. The K&N probably allowed slightly more air flow. Both will cause issues when re-oiled I never had to replace my MAF, but it required monthly cleaning to maintain the correct fuel mixture.
In the future I would just run the filter for 50 to 70k and replace, instead of cleaning an re-oiling. I am considering a CAI for my Cayenne as well not sure if I will go with the EVO or the Agency version both have pros and cons.

i just replaced my OEM filter with a K&N with only 300 mile on the odometer, do you have to clean and re-oil the filter after a short time ? i was under the impression you could go 20k + miles before you even had to think about maintenance.
