I would use different filters, but an open air intake kit will be better than the stock one.

With the aluminum piping, wouldn't it absorb the heat and the possibilty for heat soak?

yeah, it looks it be easily put together though with some polished aluminum 90degree pipes, clamps and filter of your choice for under 229.99
