Wrong oil in GTS?

Sorry to hijack the thread a bit matters22, but I have a question for a few of y'all. I am running Mobil1 5w-40 ESP formula right now and am wondering when it gets down to low enough temps. to where I have to use 0w-40, should I have an oil change done first? Or should I be good just switching it up seeing as it is the same brand?
When the temps get low enough just have the oil change done and install the 0w-40 at that time, not going to harm anything or cause any issues, and will get the full benefit of 0 vs 5 weight.
