Highway Mileage '08/'09 V6 Cayenne

Curious what the real world highway mileage is for the base V6 Cayenne. What kind of mileage are you guys getting?

The two extended highway trips I've taken (between parents home and school - 400miles) I averaged 20.8MPG. There's a lot of mountainous sections though; figure one could easily get 22+ driving on a flatter section of highway.

That's about +3mpg than I got with my previous BMW X3is. The Cayenne's fuel mileage has been a pleasant surprise despite it's bulky weight.

That's very impressive mileage! How fast were you driving? Was the 20.8 mpg figure based on a hard calculation (set Trip ODO to 0 after fill-up, drive a leg, fill-up and divide gallons put in at fill-up into miles driven) or was the figure generated by the Cayenne's computer?

I typically keep the cruise control on 77MPH. Generally there isn't a lot of traffic, especially since I make the trip during a normal weekdays, so it's also important to consider the lack of stop-and-go traffic.

The 20.8MPG is purely based upon the trip computer, which I reset at the beginning of the trip with a full tank of gas. With that MPG the range is around 475 miles on one tank of gas. I didn't even need to stop (~5.75 hr drive) the two times I made the trip with the Cayenne. The X3 was always down to 1/3 tank by the halfway point.

I've really liked the Cayenne for highway travel.
