What model year is it?

Hello all, I am new here and was wondering when the 2004's started being made. A VIN check with SunCoast (thanks!) says the vehicle is a 2003. The Carfax and dealer say it is a 2004. The VIN plate shows it was made in May of 2003. I tried seaching for model years but couldn't find the dates. So what year is the vehicle? Thanks in advance and look forward to learning from everyone.

A car made in May 2003 is considered as 2004. You can see next model year cars in july at dealerships. Considering the time it takes for the car to be prepared to be shipped and custom work etc., 2 months is normal for production date and model year.

Thanks for the quick response. That is what I figured, since the new years are usually out during the summer. I was just unable to find any definate info on the dates.

I think that is making an assumption that all car makes and models have similar release schedules. The reality is that Porsche as a manufacturer will know when the cutover in model year occurs for their products which means I would think Suncoast has a more accurate picture as a dealer going by the VIN than carfax or a dealer which might go by date sold. If the Cayenne was sitting in a dealer lot for a while the 2003 might be sold during 2004 model year periods. Just my $.02
