After market in-dash navigation system

hi:
back again but lost the cay s i had been looking at. it had nav but i didn't think it was very good compared with others i have used such as acura's (alpine based).
a couple cays i am looking at do not have nav. has anybody installed an after market nav in the dashboard? did you replace the head unit or add the nav?
looks like there are good options from alpine, pioneer, eclipse. cost to install?
thx, guys!

i had something else in mind that integrated beter with the stock dash. depending on the size of the unit i wanted to install one with a pull-out screen in the opening below where the current radio is - or lower the radio one opening and place the nav above it.
i guess the alternative is to replace the head unit with something that will play music, dvds and nav but i am not sure what else will work with the proprietary bose amps and speakers.
at any rate, it would be nice to have the dvd option even if the head unit remains.
thx for your thoughts

eeek...that pic posted by arling is fugly. IMHO flip out screens are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Very "old tech".

Eclipse & Kenwood both make a fully integrated double din touchscreen nav system. In fact, they are basically the same system with different badging & slightly different features.

I installed the eclipse unit in a ford F350 truck. Reus did it for me...very stock looking. I'll see if I can post tomorrow @ work.

Rick Reus has a great aftermarket nav system (I got the Pioneer Nav from him). They paint it to look stock.

I think his website is www.reusaudio.com

thx, trojanman and 40anny. i am near nyc so i rues is not an option for me. i look forward to the shots.
if flip out screens are replaced by a double din screen how is there enough space to display nav info? and how did the double din unit work with the existing bose setup?

BP - Reus is not at all out of the question for you. He does installs nationwide, and is worth every last penny he charges.

He does have a fantastic aftermarket nav setup for the 986/996 cars, but I don't know if he's come up with anything for the 997/Cayenne yet.

I don't understand your question about the double din and there being enough "space to display nav info". Perhaps you can't picture what I'm talking about. Check out this link @ Eclipse:

Eclipse AVN and Kenwood's 7015 have screens that are mounted on dash for OEM look. If you have Bose, it'll be harder to replace the Becker HU with the Navigation HU. Reus told me they'll just keep the Becker HU for music and the Navigation HU will be standalone for nav only.

screw bose and just have rick replace the audio system.

You can't get a first class, fully integrated, factory looking system on a dime budget.
