04 CTT problems need advice for nubee

I just purchased a 04 CTT via autotrader, with 66,000 on it. I had a pre inspection done and the mechanic said all it needed was a new battery. When my CTT arrived yesterday, everything was great until I tried to accelerate fast. It started to take off, then major shuttering/ acceleration was cutting out. While this was going on the check engine light flashed about 10 times, then went away. Any ideas what it might be? I am taking it to our local Porsche service dept. I babied it home with no problems. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

Had the same problem with my 04 CTT, they recommend to change plugs every 40k, however the plug coils should be changed as well, I changed plugs at 40 and around 55k mine did the same thing, coils are very inexpensive and told my mechanic he should automatically change them with the plugs?? his cost/my cost were around $20 each, however now you have a double labor charge to one at a time?? Mine ran beautiful after he changed the coils! Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I will have to get this done asap! I wonder if the ECU will tell me that the coil packs are going bad when they hook it up to a computer? Is really wierd, it only does it when there is a load on the engine, if I accelerate softly, it doesn't cutout of shutter? Does this sound like yours?

exactly what I had, computer did pick up foul in cylinder 4, thats how we found it, so I just replaced them all. Might consider since its opened up to toss in new set of plugs and good for another 40k. I now have 83k on mine and its starting the same thing again, my mechanic says these engines have excessive heat that causes this breakdown. If you are bringing to a mechanic (I don't care for dealers) since he will have some disassembly of the top half of the engine compartment have him check the coolant tubes. Porche used plastic which fail around 65k they have replacement aluminum tubes which Porsche started using in 05 and up. Good Luck

Great I hope that cures it! Funny thing, I already purchased the spark plugs, (NGK Iridium). Now the packs I will get from my mechanic. Yes I hate dealers too. We have a Porsche certified mechanic here in town that I heard is good, but they of course aren't open today.

Great! check the coolant tubes for sure and replace if they havent been yet, I was really lucky, when I pulled into my mechanic drive thats when I had failure and coolant everywhere, Lucky! My mechanic worked for a dealer for 30 years and said he left because of how bad they took advantage of there customers. It helps to find somebody you trust and this forum has been great, lots of opinions but alot of info. Enjoy!

The pre inspection mechanic in Idaho (where I had it shipped from) said it has the plastic tubes, but he said they were in excellent shape, but recommended that I change them out soon. Thanks for the heads up. Other than shuttering, the car is a dream to drive. I can't say it's quick yet.
Also has anyone that you know re flased the ECU? I have a Revo dealer/friend, but most people are going Evo, or APR, any suggestions? I did our Audi A4, and Passat 3.6 4-mo, and I am happy. But haven't hear anyone using Revo for Porsche?

I flashed with Fabspeed, Secondary bipass tubes bought on ebay (Fabspeed), cold air intakes and new plentum. Love it! probably up between 525 - 550?? love the way it redlines before shifting to the next gear, also recently added the GMP sprint booster for the pedal lag, easy to install, 325.00 but what a difference, doesn't add hp but removes hesitation when accelerating. There is alot on this forum to help out, lots of dealers, all good. I did all my mods at 40k and now at 83k I can't wait next year to trade up to 09CTT-S, start at 550hp and mod form there!!

Sweet! I can't wait to put some power down too! First I have to get through the boss (wife). She loves quick cars too, that why she wanted me to buy the Cayenne Turbo. I'm going to have to wait on trading up anytime soon. The 09 TT is spendy! But sweet if you can afford it! No hating here!

When I bought my '05 CTT I had it in for some hesitation as well. They found 4 of the coil packs were cracked. They changed out all 8 under warranty and the problem was fixed.

SeattleBum, I also have a 2005 Cayenne Turbo. I bought it used. How is it that you got your coil packs replaced under warranty? You must have gotten it done right under the wire earlier this year? by the way, where do you take your car for service?
