I suspect my 03 CS may need a major rewiring... May go back to an AMG ML

About a year ago a friend had to rewire his W8 and it cost $18K to fix, he ended up just parting out the car since it really wasn't worth the $$$ in his opinion.

Well a few service visits ago to a dealer that does take care of me well they found a few burnt out wires that caused my gear box position to not be recognized by the car.

For about 4 weeks my Entry Drive system stopped working completely so I've been using the key. Now I have to be within 6 feet of the car for the remote to even work and sometimes I have to try about 6 times before it gets my command.

Two weeks ago my left BiXenon started flickering and now it flickers about 10% of the time.

Navi stopped working, can't read the disc...

This stuff is starting to annoy me but still not as much as the loud wipers that love to squeak loud. My starter also screeches in cold weather but my service manager just says keep it until it totally dies. However the truck still drives like it just left the lot a few months ago with over 150K KMs on it now, if you compare that to the lower mileage Acura TL and C-Class Benz(Drive this one hard, even tracking) I have they both seem like you need new shocks all around years ago.

But it is the best SkiMobile I've ever had, looks great with four boards on the rack But I may have to sell it before anything gets too serious...

All your thoughts are welcome

What do you mean HID's flickering? Flashing like a strobe light? Can you please describe in detail?

happened the same for me. better say it's "blinking".. it's because of the nearly dead HID bulb. starts slowly than blinks a lot. When you get the "check dipped beam" warning, then your issue starts. After couple of weeks it stops working, then you have to buy a new bulb.

The headlight issue sounds like either a bad relay or bad balast. And have you tried changing the battery in your keyless entry remote?

I have heard of wiring issues under the floor carpets. These are usually the result of salt and water soaking the carpets during the winter. In fact one of these did cause transmission problems, i.e. no tiptronic.....In that case the wiring was on the passenger side in the front in a plastic raceway.

I just bought some floor mats to make sure I keep the floor as dry as possible this winter.....I just thought this might give you some idea of where to look for possible wiring issues....

As for other wiring problems, any burning etc. would be caused by chafing of wires due to wear on the wiring bundles. I would think these would be quite rare. In any case, a wiring issue that bad would normally (hopefully) blow a fuse...

Bob

By the way, I have a flickering HID as well. When I look back through the service history it's the original bulb. The other side has already been changed. I have a pair on order!!
