Scheduled Maintenance on V8

What's everyone paying for routine maintenance? After a stealership charged me $420.00 for an oil change and fluid top-off, I've been going to an indy shop that works exclusively on high-end European cars (incl. Maserati and Ferrari).
Oil change is under $200; minor service is under $400 (vs $700+); and major service (including plugs, brake fluid flush and cabin filter) is under $900. The dealership wanted $1,550-$1,650 for the same.

I can see paying a bit extra at the dealership, but they seem to be twice as expensive no matter what.

For my 10k service. I paid 297 including tax at my dealer. It includes oil change and fluids. At a porsche specialty shop, i was quoted 90 for oil change + visual inspection if i provided the oil + fluids.

I went to walmart and bought 10 quarts of mobile 1 synthetic 0-40 at around $6.50/qt. I also ordered the following parts from SUNSET IMPORTS 8 coils (948-602-104-05 ) $113.28 / 8 spark plugs (999-170-218-90) $116.32 / 1 oil filter (996-107-225-530) $14.08 2 air cleaners (955-110-131-00) $33.38 / 1 pollen filter (955-572-219-10) $22.36 and 2 alum seal (crush washers) (900-123-106-30) .96cents. I went to an independent who knows his way around porsche/audi/vw and foreign cars in general. He said the biggest pain was removing all the covers (engine/air filter hardware and oil pan cover. Plugs and coils were no problem with his ability and tools/rack. His labor bill was $165.00. That totals at about $530.00 for everything. BY the way, all 8 coils (original) were cracked. My point is if you want to save some serious cash, find an independent who will use your parts. Stay away from the STEALERS if you can. Mike

Never ever go to the dealer. Find a reputable indy shop and talk to them. Gauge if they are really good with Porsches.

Thanks for the replies. I really like the indy garage I've been using. I'm sure I could find a place for even less money, but their friendly professionalism and super-clean shop made me feel confident.

I had them install Porterfield carbon-kevlar brake pads on my GTS and CLK (yay...no more brake dust). It was less than half the price than using the dealership and their crappy stock pads. They also fixed some problems on my beater (1999 C Class) that the MB dealer couldn't seem to get right.
