Its Official - The new Cayenne is Farkin hideous - NY Autoshow
I agree they have ruined it. Looks like a Hyundai SUV front, side and rear! Too many round elements on the exterior makes it soft looking. The 957 though not beautiful still has the tough look sports SUVs supposed to have.
X5m or X6m now I'm concerned I won't like the new Cayenne. But in need of more power than the current GTS.
Maybe I will end up buying. 2010 turbo or turbo s and scrap the newest line cayenne.
Hmmmm

Looks absurd, i thought that the first time I saw it. What the heck was Porsche thinking? Plus in pure business terms people don't want the smallest fastest most nimble SUV. Look at the best selling high end SUV's on the road? Escalade, Range Rover, GL550, even G63. What people want is a big suv with plenty of room and GOBS of power. Porsche probably would have been better keeping the same weight and adding another 50-100hp which is pretty easy on that motor.
Had a chance to see car at the NYAS as well. Have to agree with roxboxx. Car is not that good looking.
The front is the coolest part, looks sharper than Gen 1. Yet, everything stops there:
Back part is japanese looking
Back seat area is odd; the rear air vents look like a transformer gone wrong.
Even though the interior is panamera-like and looks nice. The overall feel once you sit inside the SUV is crampped; like you're inside a sports car; cayenne supposed to drive like one, not feel like one inside.
Overall wife and I thought the Gen 1 to feel overall less crampped environment.

The Gray Cayenne S in the first two pics actually looks very good in my opinion. I think the GTS style wheels look nice, and the aero kit makes it look far better than the Turbo in the pics.
According to Porsche, the interior is supposed to be bigger than the last model. I agree that it looks very cramped! That said however, overall I think the interior is a nice upgrade from the current gen Pepper.
Pricing for this new model is high! The UK Porsche website will let you fully “build” one….with my configuration, the “S” came in at about $90K!

Did Porsche hire Chris Bangel?
While I like many aspects of the newer C, I think I will be keeping this one and looking for another last generation Transyberia. We almost got an '08 without that hideous orange but a DC banker beat us to it.
This one has not grown on me one bit. Other than its weight reduction and the improved front seats, the looks of this thing propel me into doing all I can to keep my '05 running and maybe add a whole more horse power to it.

Porsche know exactly what they are doing. Design has always been secondary. main goal: performance benchmark and Porsche DNA =>
The new Cayenne (like the panamera) will sell like hot cakes imho.

May I let the light shine upon you and enlighten you.

I will call your call!

I'll bet this itteration of the Cayenne flops.
Prices are too high. The exterior is a significant fugly of the original. Certainly, the new one will out perform the old one but the interior ergonomics obscure function rather than enhance it--from what I can see. More importanly, too many got burned on the current & old orignial version of the Cayenne.
A $70-75,000 depreciation across four years does not satisfy accountants. When a car drops from $111,000 to $40,000 in such a short period of time, people learn their lessons quickly and they don't repeat that error again.
That said, were it not for that massive depreciation in value, I could never have afforded my SUV. In this instance, it worked in my favor. However, I doubt history will repeat itself again in this manner.
Porsche has gotten a bad reputation for quality with almost all models since the 911. And it took them years to sort the 911 out.
The Boxster had horrible reliability problems right out the box.

The Cayman has had significant issues.
And the Cayennes we are driving all have >$9,000 bombs ready to go off in the form of replacing poorly designed collant pipes. In fact, of all current variants of Porsche, the Cayenne is rated lowest on reliability.

Add to that the fact Porsche AG is not backing their warranties as well as they should and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Add to that the Panamera and I think Porsche will have successfully cannibalized many SUV sales with their own saloon sedan. So, my freind, let's see how the sales of the new Cayenne will go. The markets are down. The American recovery a false propagandanda. There are no jobs. No one is willing to invest.
911 sales are off 60%. Actually (and honestly) it is a good time to buy a 911 right now. I'll bet you can get $20,000 off asking.

Porsche doesn't know what they are doing [other than taking a calculated risk], but Porsche took the wrong course IMO. Porsche should have put less into the new interior and exteriror design as needed to hold price current or even lower. Merely reducing the weight and bringing in their fuel saving and safety features and that new seat would have accomplished much more IMHO.
SHORT, STOCKY, FAT!!! Not graceful. It's cartoonish. Might as well have put a smile on it's grill face.
In this era of obesity, I think many will shy away from its new lines. Another porsche designed ruined in the making.
I went to the show, saw it, and sat in it. I liked the front, side profile is okay, interior a good improvement but i wasnt wow'ed by it. The back looks smaller and less aggressive in person, very japanese looking.
I also don't like how they did the back bumper, it looks like they are going backwards by not wrapping the exhausts, guess it's a marketing strategy so when the refresh comes, they can make it look nicer.
Overall it didnt impressive me enough to consider an immediate upgrade.
