still no Cayenne for me.

here's what happened. The dealer listed the 06 Turbo as CPO, asking for $62,900 plus tax. When I emailed my initial inquiry, I asked if it can be had in the mid $50's, told the guy if I was way out, let me know and we both move on. He responded "we're not too far apart, still doing the CPO and will let you know the final numbers in a day or two, but $57k or $58k might do it. I phoned up the guy, asked for more info and he told me that if I want the right of first refusal, I should make a $2,500 downpayment, which I did. A couple of days later, he sent me an email saying - the CPO cost him more than expected and now he wants the full list price, wanted me to make a decision right away because he has people lined up wanting to buy the vehicle. I replied what happened to the $57-$58 we were discussing about - he said he had to replace tires, brakes & do service, more than what he expected. I stepped up to $58, he said full price, take it or leave it.

Most of you guys know how much set of tires & brakes cost, the vehicle is still under Porsche warranty so the service will be mostly covered by it. The vehicle had been listed at various sites for 2 weeks (since Apr 10) as certified, jumping from $58 to $66 seems huge for me, so I let it go. I don't want to accuse the salesguy anything, but I have a strong feeling that somebody offered the full price while we were on negotiation.

I'm still in the market, maybe I'll just look for a low mileage GTS.

sounds like the kind of place where you want to make sure not too much time passes before you get your deposit back. Get your deposit back and once you have it you can keep an eye out.

I lost the first one i went after but wound up getting a much larger option set on the one I ultimately purchased for about $9,000 less though what I bought had about 15,000 more miles. Paid ~$55k for CTTS with ~ 30k miles and CPO until 2012.

good luck

thanks Russ. Cayenne Turbo S are hard to come by here in Canada, so far I'd only seen three 06 advertised since I started monitoring the market last fall. Hopefully more 06 Turbo S, 08 GTS or 08 Turbo will become available at reasonable price when the 2011's come out.

There's an 07 ML 63 AMG available with 50k miles but my wife won't even look at it. So I guess Cayenne or nothing for me

I live in ny but bought mine from colorado. Shipping was about $1,500. I have lots of frequent flyer miles from business so it cost me another $50 or so to fly out and inspect. The options i really have grown to love... keyless start, thermal glass, rear camera. I have the dvd nav with sat radio and kinda wish i didn't so i'd have an excuse to get an aftermarket set up. Also have the light package (auto dimming mirrors is an option!!), hitch and roof rails which I need to launch/retrieve the boat each year. I appreciate the windstar comment coming from a 6cyl station wagon --- you won't be disappointed. cheers

Thumbs up

Take your time, its much easier to wait then not get the car you love.........I am still with my beta model from 06 with 88k in miles.

I think this 06 or a CTTS will be my final nice purchase.........then it will sit in the garage and come out to play Darth Vader once a month.

I learned alot about maintenance etc to DIY. ....have alot of local guys willing to let me buy parts directly from Suncoast and they do minimal labor......I cut my average maintenance costs a year from 3k to about 500-600 bucks depending on if I need brakes..........and a one time cardan shaft expense!

You gotta learn your lesson once on these things. I was paying 150 bucks for the damn cabin filter to be changed at the dealer.........one torx and 2 regular screws later for a 20 dollar filter I was done in 15 minutes.....now I can do it in 2-3 minutes.

Good luck hunting.......thats part of the fun!

I notice that the 2008 Cayenne Turbo and 2008 Cayenne GTS currently available in Canadian used car market are usually about the same price, which is better buy of the two models?

I have not driven manual transmission for a while, and never a high performance vehicle with manual transmission - are they worth chasing also?

If I were faced with that type of treatment, I would request a full refund of my money immediately. Even if the dealer balked and relented I would not buy it or anything from him.

Certainly, there are more dealers in Canada and it is worth the wait to get the right car. I don't think you can bring in a USA spec'd car easily, so stick with Canadian sources. Start looking via Porsches used vehicle locator and you'll see more opportunity.

http://www.porsche.com/usa/pre-owned-vehicles/search/

Since these are CPO'd vehicles, always ask for a copy of the original MSRP telling the dealer you want to know exactly what is on that specific vehicle. This informs the salesman that you are an informed buyer who does his homework. They'll take you more seriously.

But this dealer is playing you hard and it is WRONG. Let him lose your business.

If you can find one to drive, check out the GTS manual. I enjoy driving mine more than any other SUV I've sampled.

Manual? That is a tough call. I don't miss the clutch. When I was beginning towing and shifting manually with the tiptronic, the car started overheating. I was told by the service manager to let the car drive itself (Put it in drive and don't worry about it, dummy.) When I left it in drive it never got hot.

In the winter I often use the tiptronic (and even in the summer to save brake wear) to downshift, however, I almost never select an upshift with the 6-speed tiptronic.

After 9 months and more than 10K miles, I am still getting used to the vehicle. I still don't know how to downshift it using the throttle as others have described.

I would not want a standard. I would not the costs involved in maintaining a clutch and all. However, Porsche built the tiptronics with "lifetime" lubricant and I would have prefered a design that would allow me to easily completely change the fluid and filters. We've rough conditions (volcanic and ash and glacial silt dust) and I would prefer to be able to change fluids more easily.

I am certain the standard would make it an entirely different car. However, I wonder how well the traction control and safety features would work with a manual.

The Turbo is better optioned generally but the GTS is rarer. In winter conditions I often wished I had a NA V8 rather than turbos with their lag. Damn wheel spin is a problem. Turbo has more torque for towing and more output.

The GTS rides slightly lower and I need more ground clearance. I believe both come with air suspensions--which is a wash. I think they have the same brakes, but I think the GTS may come with PDDC as standard--this is a plus for the GTS. The Turbo has nicer finsihing touches--more leather, real leather, alcantara headliner.

Gee, I can't think of a nicer delimna. Which ever you get, you'll enjoy it.

No issues with any systems working well with the manual, including ground clearance.

Having just taken mine autocrossing yesteday, I think the lower GTS stance coupled with the air suspension would be a great package.

(yes, I tuned the PSM off )

thanks folks.... now I am more confused than ever

Cayenne conundrum continues.

Current choices (and within budget) are 08 Turbo, 08 GTS for mid Cdn $70's. There is also an 06 Turbo S with lot's of upgrades (ECU, exhaust, sound, wheels) from US and can bring it landed here for $10k less.

somebody told me to concentrate on GTS, but 08 Turbo appears to be better value if available for the same dough... but the 06 CTTS has all the upgrades that I had in mind, and I'll be left with $10k for other stuff.
