Engine

Have not posted in awhile - my replacement engine was done for $12K. It purrs like a kitten and has not used a drop of oil...I check often. There is an issue with a small number of engines- what is still interesting is that you cannot buy any aftermarket parts for the internal engine....everyone now says that I have a new car....

I guess that is the one good thing to come out of this...you esentially have a new car for $12K extra. Yes, it sucks to have to spend that but at least it's a big thing you don't have to worry about for a long time.

I guess the ultimate question is whether this new engine has the plastic coolant pipes or aluminum pipes

Just new to these forums and was searching for this exact topic. I just purchased a used 2009 GTS with 34,000kms. Perfect condition with all service records etc. I drove it for 1000kms before the oil light came on. Was able to stop the car immediately and replenish the oil (with Porsche recommended 0W) and the car ran fine for another few weeks. Next the check engine light came on and it started to run very rough, with loss of power. I had it collected by Porsche service. The result was 2 cylinders were scored and the engine needed to be replaced. Thankfully it is a total warranty claim. The car has been in for 6 weeks now, expect it back next week with the new engine. ($29,000usd)
I am a big Porsche fan, and I never would have expected this type of flaw in such a performance vehicle.
Also, great service here, they supplied a complimentary 09 Cayenne GTS for me for the duration of the work.

Tough Question

What do you think a 2005 Cayenne S is worth with a new engine? Does it just hold it's value or actually increase it? When they replaced my engine - everything was new - alternator - starter - water pump - fuel pump. Suppose I could advertise at full original retail (because it has new tires too)!

dang,,,, that's a tough one... I would personally value it higher than typical used Cayenne, but the market won't speak the same language as me.

I have a 2012 Cayenne Turbo with 26k miles, scored cylinders 1 and 2. Engine will be replaced under warranty. I have pampered it since day 1 when I bought it brand new. There was a ticking noise that made me suspicious that something was wrong. Check the bellow thread https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...start-ups.html

Seized Motor

Hey guys, looking to get a replacement motor in my 2008 Cayenne Turbo.

Bought the car used from a single owner @ 123k miles in Nov 2015.
Sadly...The motor seized at 129k miles on Dec 2015.
According to my local dealership the exact cause of seize is unknown atm.

Previous owner says he maintained the car and did all the annual check ups...but long story short, I'm going to be paying out of pocket for a new engine.

What options are there out there besides the obvious buy a new/used engine?

Anyone successfully do a rebuild or motor swap? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I'm curious about that also. Not that I have a blown motor, but curious if motors are interchangable. Like can Cayenne S, GTS and Turbo can interchange motors.

I've changed engine on my CS 2003 from CS 2006. Donor was badly damaged in accident - rear end was hit by truck. That engine is sleeved, so I think scoring problem is no more concern for me. Of course it was not cheap repair - I've changed all gaskets, chains, pulleys too, because "why not?", if engine was on the table and I had two weeks of xmas holidays. Car really feels like new since then. And no oil consuming at all. Already made over 6000km on new engine - oil level stays the same. It's really a DIY job if you have garage with vehicle lift and engine crane. All that counted up to 4,500Euros with all materials and engine parts.

You can interchange engines, but you have to change some other components too - ECU, transmission, exhaust and some other controllers and sensors. But it wouldn't be cheap, and even can rise over the price of originally made Turbo or GTS.
