best porsche approved tires?

I have 21" wheels, the Latitude Sports have been backordered for a while so everyone is overpricing them. Which a year ago went for $390 a piece, now I cant find them below 450 except one place who quoted me $425 when they are off backorder. I wanted to know if anyone has had the latitudes before and switched to a different tire and has been more pleased?

forget the name of the stock 21's that came on my GTS, but I liked them better than the latitudes. I will check later for ya.

just checked. YOKAHOMA stock GTS tires.

YOu can get about 7K miles on them before you start hearing road noise, but besides that handle great.
Max life is probably 17-20K MAX.
I got 18K, but probably should have replaced around 15K, just had some trips I didnt have the time to change...

LOVE THEM.

Quietest and Sticky I liked the original factory Diamaris, bad news wear out way to quick, I averaged 5-6 k miles a set! I'm running Latitude Sports now, better average 12-14k, second set already, little noiser and broke them loose couple times in rain. Maybe next time try something else?
Anybody try these??http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....TR+Sport+H%2FP definite check surveys for comparison
I'm running the Sumi's on my 996tt and surprised with the hp setup I'm running on how well they handle for an inexpensive tire.

I like the Diamaris as well but got only 6,000 miles from my set. I really think Porsche chose the right 20" street tire. It's too bad they wear so quickly.

Not sure about an answer to that question... but if you try it, please let us know!

On a similar tire replacement note, has anyone more recently tried the Pirelli Pzero Rosso's on a GTS of similar car with stock 21's?

I know that the reviews on it seemed mixed to somewhat more negative than positive, but you can pick up a set for about 2/3 of the cost of the Yokohamas, so even if they go bad slightly faster and they have to be replaced sooner, you might still come out ahead. Thoughts?

I had those on my 08 GTS with 21's, they are horrible tires. Biggest problem is when turning into my driveway which is a little up hill the side walls would give too much and rub the edges of the rim on the ground. DO NOT buy the Pirelli tires for 21 inch rims. I put 20 inch rims on my turbo just so i would have better tire choices and a little better performance.

I have the pirellis on my 21's, one had a sidewall bubble when I hit a pothole. However they are cheap, only 250 or so from tire rack a few month ago, now they are 350. Handling is great but always thought they looked funny on my wheels' like the sidewall is not protecting the lip enough. I have 13k on them and they need to be replaced soon.

Wow, Matrix, that doesn't sound good. I can't imagine any tire having that problem... anyone else experienced that?

Jyupitt, the cost savings on the tires is what has me going back to them... if the price drops down to $250 per again, it would be hard to argue against getting them (Matrix's input might change things, however).

LA, sorry, not trying to steal your post... maybe someone at Tirerack could advise for ya?

Gee, all I can do is encourge you to go to larger diameter tires if cost is a problem AND to stay within the guidelines of Porsche's engineers. However, for my off-road all around tires (except speed runs) I have 18" General AT Grabber II's. Admittedly, they are not NO rated but are comfortable and relatively cheap and can handle most conditions but I'd never go fast on them. I only feel safe on the Diamaris at speed. TireRack recommended the Grabbers in 255/55-18 and they are highly rated. I am going to run them most of the time and use the 20's for autocross. However, if I lived in the desert and stayed on the highways, I use solely the Diamaris.

I'd hate to see someone make the mistake i did with those tires. The best way i can describe it is that it felt like the sidewalls were giving into the weight of the front end, almost like the tire was rolling under the rim when turning into an uphill drive. I went cheap after spending almost 3k on PS2's for my BMW M6 and got what i paid for. It chewed up my upgraded color matched rims pretty good.

Matrix, I hear ya... looking at alternatives now... not many options with these 21's.

Los Angeles, sounds like the Yoko's are the most popular from what I've found... there are some Conti's that run about $120 less per tire, not sure how good they are though. Then, there are the Michelin Sports. Good luck!

Pirellis came stock on my GTS. Got 13k on them before replacing them with the Latitudes. Latitudes have a smother ride and seem less harsh on bad roads. Paid $457 each! Hope they last.

Damn, 21" Latitudes cost more than 20" Diamaris.

It seems there is no beating the tire bills--if you want your SUV to perform.
