Do dealers test drive your vehicle?
Do dealers test drive your vehicle?
This may be the wrong place to ask, but since I own a Cayenne I can't see why not.
Today after my vehicle was serviced I found that it had gained 2 extra miles.
The staff told me they test drive them.
I contacted three different Porsche dealers and all the techs said they do.
Is this normal or something only within my state?

My Porche
I gues it depends on what you had done, if they just changed the Oil I dont see why they would need to or what they would find out in two miles that they couldnt find out in one.
If you leased the car, service it once a year for 3 years your looking at 6 miles added on, no biggie what so ever.
Maybe they test drove it to make sure the car is good all around. I would be much happer to have them find something wrong then not at all.
Love my 2010 Cayenne...

Maybe I should elaborate a bit further.
It was actually a repair on the exterior deformality, the car has less than 1,500 miles, and a 2010 model with only two months of ownership.
I have complained about the weak acceleration and braking power of my car compared to X5s but the tech did not write down anything else down besides the repair, I stated that it will be third party tested but not at the dealer.
Checked with the next door service department (Audi) and they too test drive it, although I never noticed it as I care about my Porsche more

I think any decent repair facility will drive it. They should at least run it down the street and up on the highway to make sure there are not other issues the owner did not notice.
You may be surprised at the things the average owner will let slide by as "normal". They simply drive around all day with the windows up and the radio on, never hearing the rattle, clunk or whining coming from the car.
The mileage they put on will vary depending on where the shop is located relative to a good road or stretch of freeway. Or how far they have to drive to replicate a noise, clunk etc.
It is the lazy shops that don't drive your car.

I agree with everyone else here. It's a good thing they test drive it b/f they give it back to you.
As far as the brakes and acceleration, which model Cayenne did you get? If you got the V6 and you're comparing it to the V8 X5 then what did you expect?
2010 Cayenne S, comparing to BMWs is still apples to oranges, but maybe after breaking in I can get a better experience.

This has given manufacturers the ability to computer control break-in periods. Not allowing certain activities within certain mileage markers. For example, you may not get a true 100% throttle until after X amount of miles have been reached. You might request 100%, but the computer may only deliver 75-80%.

What irks me is not so much the miles that were gained, but the fact that had I not asked, would I ever be told beforehand?
Once again appreciate all the responses, and I agree that a quick test drive can prevent something from happening down the road, as long as its tested in a "careful" manner.
