Cayenne warranty extended for coils

Just got notice on this from Porsche. Warranty is extended another 4 years, 50,000 miles for 2003-2006 Cayenne's. Nice!

eVoMotion 10-15-2010 04:10 PM

Ditto!

OCNYPORSCHE 10-15-2010 06:12 PM

I did not get anything in the mail? Are yours both CPO'ed? Mine 2005 is CPO'ed.

eVoMotion 10-15-2010 06:28 PM

No CPO, actually bought it from a 3rd party. We did not have an extended warranty, etc.

Mr. Haney 10-15-2010 06:56 PM

So my 04 with 67k and me as the second owner, no warranty-qualifies?

Markenstein3D 10-15-2010 07:32 PM

can we call porsche north america and check/request for confirmation based on the VIN? i just got an 06 CTT-S last week

atlshaver 10-15-2010 11:23 PM

From what I read everyone qualifies. If you just purchased yours send in the new owner card from your manual and I assume they will mail you the info.

RobsCountach 10-16-2010 07:58 AM

This could be an even greater Christmas present than my Cayenne itself. I, too, just picked up an 04 S with 67k. I'd imagine I can't just bring them in; they have to swap it out. The dealer is kindof a drive for me...

Noob question for you, are the new coils different than the previous O.E.M. units (are they working as they should without failure?) or are they an ongoing issue?

356 10-16-2010 03:42 PM

WOW...I just bought a used 2004 with 84,750 miles from a BMW/Porsche dealer in Virgina. I noticed the idle, when warm, is a little rough. Sounds like a classic coil issue. As noted by another poster, this may be an early Christmas gift!

codey 10-16-2010 04:50 PM

Porsche has really done right on this.

FastHackem 10-16-2010 04:53 PM

Can you scan the document and post it for all of us that have not received this? Thanks!

ClutchnThrottle 10-16-2010 06:45 PM

I changed out my coils in April. I wonder if Porsche will reimburse the price of the coils?

It would be nice if they added the coolant tubes and cardan shaft.

RobsCountach 10-16-2010 07:39 PM

...and I just bought a used 2004 with 67k from a Mercedes dealer in Virginia that's got the same issue. Mmm, sounds like we'll be visiting a dealer soon.

codey 10-17-2010 03:38 PM

I just received mine today. Yes Porsche will reimburse you for previous coil repairs. It says that if you have already paid to have the repair completed you may receive a reimbursement if you meet the following requirements.

1. You own or have owned a 2003-2006 model year Cayenne.
2. You have paid to replace the ignition coils for the concern described above. (The concern listed above relates to various problems with the ignition coil that results in illumination of the 'Check Engine' warning indicator. )
3. The repair was performed before the date of this letter and vehicle mileage did not exceed 100,000 miles at the time of replacement.
4. You have an original or legible copy of the paid repair order or invoice showing your name, description of concern, charges of parts/labor, repair date, mileage data, and name and address of the authorized Porsche dealer or licensed repair facility).

On a separate note:
My question is if the concern relates to "various problems with the ignition coil that result in illumination of the "Check Engine" warning indicator" will they change the coils if the check engine light is not on? It goes on to say that should you notice the illumination of this indicator, contact your preferred Porsche dealer without delay. Last time my coils were cracked and repaired under warranty the check engine light was not on.

bbywu 10-17-2010 03:44 PM

Wow...a lot of reponses!

The ignition coil design has changed. When I did my plugs, all 8 of my coil packs were cracked. I am not sure if Porsche will reimburse me for this, as the coil plugs were $290 for a set of eight...the newest version should have part number 94860210405.

Mr. Haney 10-17-2010 07:00 PM

So if I take the vehicle to the dealer and they only find 4 cracked coils, will they only replace 4 or all 8?

bbywu 10-17-2010 07:29 PM

They all need to be replaced.

Mr. Haney 10-17-2010 07:39 PM

Is that a "yes" all 8?

Markenstein3D 10-17-2010 10:09 PM

so these items from suncoast is not the new set?

I'm setting for service to replace the spark plugs this week.. would the dealership charge if I tell them to check and/or replace the old coils even if they aren't broken?

pcst 10-18-2010 08:56 AM

got mine too, but it sounds like this only covers when you get the check-engine light on the dash due to ignition coil issue.

pcst 10-18-2010 09:04 AM

I got mine too, but if I remember correctly, this warranty will cover only if you get the check-engine light on the dash due to the ignition coil issue.

Anyways, hope they step up and take care of coolant pipe issue, too!

(I meant to edit above response, but I guess I hit reply instead of Edit button, ending up repeating myself ;) )

955 V8 Coil Set

snzuloz 10-22-2010 04:20 PM

Does anyone know which part numbers are faulty (Mine are 948-602-104-03) I'm assuming the ignition coil and pencil coil are one unit (assembly)?

gr8ful 10-27-2010 07:27 PM

Question: Uder CPO warranty the dealer replaced one coil and only one coil last November. Should I be asking for them to replace all eight? I have no check engine light and while it uses a lot of gas that is the only possible symptom--otherwise she runs like stink and saved my life the other day getting us out fo the way FAST.

Hopefully someone knows the answer to this  Is there a certain year or part number that fixes this issue for good?

gr8ful 10-28-2010 02:30 PM

I'm hoping that this isn't merely an exercise in public relations but that Porsche will actually honor their offer and change out mine. I suspect my poor gas mileage may be contributed in a large part to this problem.

Cole 10-28-2010 03:58 PM

[QUOTE=gr8ful;3023484. I suspect my poor gas mileage may be contributed in a large part to this problem.[/QUOTE]

My poor mileage is entirely the fault of my right foot:D

gr8ful 10-28-2010 04:07 PM

Gee, I pay more than anyone else in the USA for gas. I am happy to get it at $3.52.9, but I only get 90 octane. I am using as much of it as I can before I die.

But, I really take it easy, well, I used to, until I saw that I never got more than xmpg. then I decided to drive it more naturally and still get xmpg.

13.2 mpg highway and maybe 11.9 at best city. In the winter I was getting 8.9 mpg city! Best I ever got was 19.2 mpg but about died of boredom.

cayenned 01-31-2011 12:07 PM

are all 03-06 cayennes included? I have 3 coils gone bad (out of extended warranty) and dealer says my cayenne is not included in the recall!

anyone?

pcst 01-31-2011 01:45 PM

I thought all 03-06 Cayennes are included on this deal, why don't you contact;
http://www.porsche.com/usa/dialogue/...ndinformation/

give them your VIN# and go from there.

Yes, the notice I have says all 2003-2006 Cayennes with less than 100,000 miles on them at the time of failure are covered. I just pulled it up and reviewed it.

Just called PCNA they said that my coils arent included. Succesor parts are from the 95560210104 and forward

snzuloz 02-01-2011 01:06 PM

I contacted them as well, same number on my coils as yours, they only had the one number on file and the lady I spoke with didn't know which successor numbers were covered??? Forwarded me to the dealer (imagine that) for more info. Sounds like a joke to me, why even bother extending anything if your not going to cover it for the people that actually need them.
