I'm heading up to the Crescent City area next weekend. I'm excited to be taking the new Cayenne on a road trip.

Google maps wants me to take I-580 to US-101 which means 343 miles on 101. That's fine if it's the quickest way. I'm going to visit my mother and what I really need is the fastest route (as opposed to a *drivers/fun* route) as I plan to make the trip frequently in the future.

I remember taking I-5 further north then cutting over to 101 later. However, I've been flying up for the past many years and can't recall which options to take.

Anyone familiar with the trip that can make suggestions?
