New Cayenne is getting paint! It was a 11/1 order and the build date slipped to Jan. and should be out to port on 1/25. Anyone have any recent experiance with getting it across the sea and in and out of Galveston (days)? Also, I want to take a 2 week road trip and wondering about breakin before hitting the road for 2800 miles. Any advice other than the pat dealer response?

I took mine on a 1600 mile road trip in the first week after purchase. Just vary the speed and don't use cruise control. I kept it in sport mode most of the time which keeps it in lower gears longer, thus preventing upshifting to 7 or 8 as soon (more variety in revs).

Thx
Bill, Thanks for taking the time to reply.. that helps knowing that as long as I stay with the 'breakin' guidelines I can hit the road!!

The only other thing which is mentioned somewhere in the manual is not to lug the engine down...so I'd watch it on hills where it can't hurt to drop it down early from 6th, 7th or 8th gear.

Porsche tells people to not consistently stay at or above 4.5K RPM. Given USA speed limits, truly there is no break in. Just avoid short trips (should not be an issue in your case), check engine oil consumption closely as they tend to be higher before break in and as bill P menioned avoid lugging the engine and vary RPMs. If you do have a shor trip atleast drive enough to atleast get all the fluids to operating temps. Congrats. I just got my wife's Cayenne after a 4 month wait.

drive it like you will drive it, but dont use cruise control and try and change the speeds and gears up to vary the RPM range.. very odd on a long trip but id do the above for first 1k and then have fun..

just need to make sure everything properly seals and runs thru the entire range.

Ya they already run the engines and swap oil before boat ride. I drove my gts like I stole it from day one.
