Transmission Shift 5th gear problem

Hey all,

I searched on transmission issues, and shift problems and found some threads back in 2008 and early 2009 with some similar sounding issues but no resolution was posted. My 2004 when not shifting under load has a hard clunk only on 4 to 5 shift or 5 to 4. On kickdown 5 to 4 or ever light load 4 to 5 it will shutter very hard and seemingly searching for a gear. I know of one other car locally that has similar issue, also a 2004.

Valve body? Programming? any ideas??

I have just been driving it around in manual mode to avoid 5th gear unless I tell it to go there and and I keep it from doing it by making sure the load is even when shifting. Frustrating as I love the car otherwise.

thanks for help

I have seen a few posts about transmission valve body, anyone have any idea if this is related? Has anyone had it replaced and is it on the outside of the transmission?

The transmission valve body is inside the transmission, and as far as I know it is not available for purchase seperately (ridiculous I know) Which gives you two options, purchase new transmission or rebuilt unit (either way big $$$). What is so special about these transmissions that the valve bodies can't be removed or replaced independently??
