Check Engine Light.....Please Help!!!
Let me start by saying I know very little about cars but I hate taking my car in for repairs and not know what they're saying or understand what needs to be done. This past Friday evening my check engine light came on & after reading a few threads on this site I checked my gas cap & then I took my 05 Cayenne S to a national auto parts store to have it checked. The report came back with the following:
1. Definition: Randon cylinder misfire detected
Explanation: Lean Air/Fuel ratio
Probable cause: 1. Ignition system misfire condition 2. Fuel Injector Fault 3. Engine Mechanical Condition
2. Definition: Cylinder 5 Misfire Condition
Explanation: Vacuum leak on engine
Probable Cause: 1. Ignition system fault. 2. Fuel injector fault 3. Engine mechanical condition
3. Definition: Cylinder 4 Misfire Condition
Explanation: Vacuum leak on engine
Probable Cause: 1. Ignition system fault. 2. Fuel injector fault 3. Engine mechanical condition
My nephew works for this auto parts store and said my car needs a tune-up. He suggested I purchase my parts from him/ his store @ his associate's discount & have the Porsche dealer do the work. So my questions are:
1. Will Porsche allow me to supply my own parts & I pay for labor only.
2. Will a tune-up solve my problem or is there something else wrong with my car?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts, suggestions or advice.

Don't Want To Be Helpless In St. Louis,
I believe that the ignition coils are a common issue on the cayenne, mine were replaced under warranty.... someone else may be able to offer more info however
wish I could be of more help, but a search regarding ignition coil issues may yeild some more answers!

Thanks for the info. I spoke with Porsche dealer this AM & they said the warranty only applies if the coils in my car are not the original inigition coils. Since I purchased this car as a pre-own I have no idea whether the previous owner replaced them or not. (Shouldn't they have access to that info?) Therefore, I will need to pay to have them replaced and if they wear out again the warranty will apply. This makes no sense to me & if this was a true recall why should I pay to replace a recalled part. Has anyone else had this experience?
Because the recall covers a different part number of coils than the original ones that were installed at the factory. If they were replaced after the factory ones they would have the part number of the coils under the recall thus making you eligible for replacement at no cost to you.
