Thumbs up Just Being a Porsche Owner

So i briefly wanted to bring up something non-technical but applies to all of us. How owning, and driving a porsche, makes us feel. People ask me all the time, do you like your Porshce? (they are extremely rare where I live, as I am the only one in a town of 22k that drives a cayenne) I always respond with this: "i love it!" but somehow i am left with a lack of understanding as to how to explain to them the sensation that the vehicle provides me.
---

sure maintenance costs are high, Porsche North America was rude to me on tow separate occasions, and the ohio and indiana dealerships have extremely poor customer service skills, esp if you're waiting during a service call, and the thing requires replacement parts that seem unusual. eg drive shaft, coolant pipes, etc, and the tires wear out in no time flat, and lastly, the fuel consumption is, well, do you have to ask?
---
However, I honestly can NOT for the life of me replicate the feeling I get when I am accelerating through the revs. I feel comfortable going right to 7k rpm often knowing I am driving a piece of engineering that is designed to handle this. I can not say this of any other vehicle I have owned. It always turns the heads, it sounds amazing under acceleration, and it is so solidly built, the body makes NO noise under slow or high speed cornering or bumps. Even top gear said the 1st gen cayenne was the most well built SUV in the world and is the only SUV that handles like a low slung sports car. I can be going 80mph on the highway and click it down to 4th gear and just fly. I mean the torque that becomes instantly available is INSANE. Its the feeling of that much mass accelerating so quickly.

plus its just nice driving something that resembles a monet rolling down the street. the car is art. case closed.
---
I've driven briefly, the Mercedes V12, the Ferrari 360, the BMW 545i V8, the Mustang Shelby GT 500 615bhp, and the charger superbee 440bhp V8, and to me, nothing weaves through traffic with the lateral sensation that the cayenne does. I dont know what it is, but lately I've just been calling it porsche pride. The engineering and exclusivity of these Porsche vehicles truly amaze me. unlike the american cars, it doesnt "boat around" on the road and dip and rise, and unlike the bmw and ferrari, it isnt jerky with the throttle, and unlike the mercedes, it manages to pt the power to the ground in a linear sense.

P O R S C H E - P R I D E

Im interested to hear everyone else's comments about how driving their cars make them feel on the inside, be it emotions or heartbeats.

Lots of Cayennes around here so my wife blends in with all the other soccer moms.

I found my dealership in northern Indiana to be fine when I lived there - no issues at all. When I lived in Fort Wayne, Porsches were more of a rarity. Now that I live in the Denver area, they are everywhere. I think there are 3 or 4 parked in my office parking lot right now.

I've been very happy with our Cayenne. It's a great vehicle, and I enjoy driving it. That being said, after I've been driving the 911, the Cayenne feels like driving a bus. It's big and heavy. It's much more luxurious than the 911 and I really appreciate the engineering, but not as much as I do in the 911. I don't really get asked about the Cayenne too much, but I frequently do about the 911.

Overall, I think they are well-built cars that are a pleasure to drive, and you should be proud of owning one. I wouldn't go so far as to call them a classic work of art - they are cars afterall. One of the beautiful things about a Porsche is that you can enjoy a high-end car every day. They are fast, good looking and reliable.

Glad you're enjoying it!

Dennis,

Glad you had a godo experience with indiana porsche dealerships. I left mine at tom wood porsche on the north side if indy for a week and was denied a loaner, billed 1649 + 50 for a tire rotation, and I got it back literally in the parking lot with a dead battery, a yellow film all over the car, and the techs had left coolant stains in the leather on the inside. destroyed the grab handles and the left side of the steering wheel. when i asked, the stealership offered to pick up the cost of one grab handle but said it would 3 weeks to 4 months direct from germany home office. not to mention when i dropped it off on a saturday night, 15 minutes before closing, they locked up the dealership and asked me to "step outside" and left me standing in front, completely alone in a pitch black lot. worst service experience ever. I shouldn't generalize all of indiana's dealerships though. only fair.

Wow - that's horrible! I never used that dealership. I bought my Cayenne at O'Daniel Porsche in Fort Wayne, and I always had it serviced there. The service guys were great. No issues at all. The sales manager who was involved in my sale was a bit of a knucklehead, but I only had to deal with him once!

I couldn't agree more with you!! I beyond love my car and get the same feeling when I drive it. I never was a car girl before, always thought reliability was the most important thing for a car. Now I can give a rip about reliability, I'm all about my performance piece of machinery. There are only 3 other cayennes in my town of 80 k and I'm glad! I'm soo glad I didn't get the Lexus or Acura SUVs that all the other moms drive.

When I asked a local service mgr at a dealership that sells both Acuras and Porsches to compare and contrast the MDX and the Cayenne, he said ," MDX great car, very reliable; you'll spend 1/10 on maintenance vs what you'd spend on the Porsche. But, people don't name their Acuras."

That sums it up for me....

GTS Jay has a spectacular aura aboutGTS Jay has a spectacular aura about
I've been driving my GTS for about 2 months now and I enjoy and appreciate it more and more every time I take it out. In fact, I have a very hard time driving straight home and more often then not, I find myself skipping my exit and taking a 20 or 30 mile detour just because I don't want to stop driving it. My Cayenne has the PDCC option and it's flatness around corners amazes me with each and every turn - just love that feeling of driving a tall, large, and heavy SUV spiritedly around a corner totally flat. The magic is that this SUV does just that but has a wonderfully comfortable ride quality at the same time. Very few vehicles of ANY type can pull this off let alone an SUV that weighs about as much as a house.

This is my 67th vehicle and I've driven many great ones but this one may just end up being my all time favorite. I just love that it can be a very quiet and very comfortable sport-tourer, a great utility vehicle, and quite a decent sports machine all at the same time (although it's certainly no 911 or even a Panamera). I typically keep my vehicles for about 4 years and I'm already thinking that my next will be a 958. I like all types of vehicles but I find that when I'm driving a car I very much miss driving an SUV and have come to the conclusion that I'm and SUV guy first and it's a toss up between a great sports sedan (such as a Panamera) and a GT car (such as an AM DB9) second. Although I've never driven a 958, I'm assuming, to me, that a fully-optioned 958 is the best SUV available with my older 957 being second. I really like the BMW X6 as well but haven't driven one yet.

Glad you are enjoying Anne. GTS Jay, the X6 is flawless save that the rear seats have zero headroom, and the boot is small. I also think for what you get in terms of functionality it is over priced.

however...

it is beautiful and Powerful. and for some, that is all that matters. I completely respect that!!!! let me know if you buy one!

Jay, cool, I KNEW we'd be simpatico on this one! Though I for sure haven't owned as many cars as you have, it's great to know that my opinion is confirmed by someone who has experience with so many other fab cars.
